Win-Win Deal Making: Lessons From The Road
In Win-Win Deal Making: Lessons from the Road, Erik Richer La Flèche, a seasoned lawyer, provides deal making insights learned over four decades while negotiating in jurisdictions as varied as Japan, Indonesia, China, India, Sri Lanka, Laos, Bolivia, Cuba, France, Algeria, Chad, Botswana, and Djibouti, to name but a few. Most deals involved large projects: infrastructure, basic industry and natural resources, but the lessons learned are applicable to all manner of transactions whether big or small.

This book provides practical advice that is rarely, if ever, taught in formal settings. The book was written in the hope of making negotiators and analysts more effective and efficient. The many anecdotes and examples scattered throughout the book provide context and colour and help the reader remember and apply the lessons.

About the Author

Erik Richer la Flèche is a member of the Barreau du Québec. Until his retirement from his busy practice in 2022, he was also a member of the Law Society of Ontario. Erik practised law in Canada and abroad for nearly forty-five years. He was a partner at Stikeman Elliott LLP for thirty-three years—one of Canada’s top business law firms with offices across Canada and in New York City and London. From 1981 to 1984 Erik was seconded to Anderson Mori & Tomotsune in Tokyo, one of Japan’s “Big Four” law firms. During his career Erik served for five years as Bangladesh’s Honorary Consul for Quebec.

Erik is married to Carolina Gallo, a senior executive with a multinational manufacturing company. They live in Montreal where they raised their three grown children. Erik continues to travel and likes to spend time in France, Anguilla and Nova Scotia. He sits on the boards of several Japanese-owned corporations and occasionally lectures, consults and blogs.
