"My name is Larkspur, and I am an Elemental."
My people use the power of the earth to sustain life and defy our enemies. I should be at my father's side as a royal princess. But as a half-breed, bastard child, that isn't going to happen.
The King is missing and his mind is cracked. It is up to me to find him before the Rim is taken over by the bloodthirsty heir to the throne.
But the path to finding the King is anything but straight, and I find myself in the human world facing possible banishment. All to find a Tracker who happens to be on the run from a demon, yet she is my only hope in bringing my father home.
Nothing is as it seems and I'm uncertain who is friend or foe. My impending punishment threatens to suffocate me as I defy our laws and fight to bring peace to my home. . . and fight to keep those I love the dearest alive.
How will I get both my father and I out of this one unscathed? Welcome to being The Chosen One.

This is the BEST one yet!! Shannon knocks it out of the park with this one!! You want to cry and you want to hit something this one ties so many things together!! You'll fall in love with Lark even more! I received an ARC for an honest review.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. A Cactus/Ash love triangle and non stop action made this a difficult book to put down. This adventure takes place with the Slyphs in the Eyrie. Lark learns some things about herself while she is busy saving the world. Windburn answered some question along with creating more and we got our first glimpse of Rylee Adamson. Shannon Mayer is spectacular at doing what you don't expect and one of the very few authors who can truly surprise me with her plot twists.

Fantastic Fourth Book in Series! I received this ARC of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. But I must say I have not only read all the other books in this series but have read other series by this author and have not been disappointed with her books yet. As far as this book it continues where the third book in this series ended with Lark taking on the task of finding her father. A lot of important things happen in this book and it is fast paced but you will definitely love it all. Once again the love triangle between Lark, Ash and Cactus is in full swing. In this book you will also see many characters that are important in the Rylee Adamson series and how they are intertwined with Lark. I definitely want to know what happens next and can't wait till the next book in the series is released.

I received an ARC from the author in exchange for my honest review and I can absolutely say this book was amazing!! These books pick up where the last book left off so you're not confused on where you are in regards to the story. I really love Lark and as the series goes I have to say she's becoming my favorite character by Shannon Mayer. What is really fun is that I read the Rylee Adamson Series as well and Shannon is including her story in this one so we're getting more out of that story. People we only heard a little about in those books, we're getting to know them and what happened before Rylee's story began. I'm loving every minute of it and can't to see what will happen next. Definitely a book worth reading! You won't struggle getting into any of them and you might even start reading Rylee's story if you haven't already.

Shannon Mayer's Elemental Series is an absolute joy to read. I was really attracted to this series because the world building is not like any other series I have read. It is really quite fascinating how she has worked out the connections between the elementals, the mortal world and the underworld (the veil). I have read all of the books in Shannons previous, very successful, Rylee Adamson series. However, you do not have to be familiar with those books to enjoy The Elemental Series. At the bottom of this review I am leaving a timeline of the novels for anyone that wants to continue with both of the series. Windburn takes off like many of Shannon's other books, fast paced with lots of action. In the last two years since Firestorm, Lark's father has walked out on his people before naming an heir. Bella has asked for Lark's aid in finding their father, because without an heir their family and their home is at an extreme risk. Without their father, there is no way to keep Bella and her unborn child safe, so Lark must leave her home and Ash behind to try to save her father, yet again. Lark suspects her father to be hiding out in the Eyrie with the Wind Elementals, so she sets off an a long journey to reach her destination. Along the way Lark meets new friends, some that those of us who have read the Rylee series know and love quite well. I won't lie, there are parts that I cried like a baby. I really loved meeting our new flying friend in Windburn, don't want to give any spoilers away though! As others have mentioned, there is not nearly as much world building in Windburn as in the other novels and I was left wanting more. The world building that was done was a little confusing to me and I would have liked to have seen more focus on that, because it is something that Shannon excels at and I wish more time had been devoted to that. However, the story line really was fantastic. The were quite a few questions answered by the end of the book, including who the elusive and deadly Blackbird. I am really hoping for a novella to be set between the end of this book and where we met Rylee in Elementally Priceless. I really want to see Lark's character continue to evolve into the badass that first meet's young Rylee. I cannot wait to see what awaits us in Rootbound! Chronological Time Line for Lark and Rylee: Recurve (Lark #1) Breakwater (Lark #2) Firestorm (Lark #3) Peta (novella) Windburn (Lark #4) Elementally Priceless (Rylee Adamson Novella) Tracking Magic (Rylee Adamson Novella) Alex (Alex Novella) Priceless (Rylee Adamson #1) Immune (Rylee Adamson #2) Raising Innocence (Rylee Adamson #3) Shadowed Threads (Rylee Adamson #4) Blind Salvage (Rylee Adamson #5) Tracker (Rylee Adamson #6) Guardian (Rylee Adamson novella #6.5) Veiled Threat (Rylee Adamson #7) Wounded (Rylee Adamson #8) Stitched (Rylee Adamson novella 8.5) Rising Darkness (Rylee Adamson #9) Blood of the Lost (Rylee Adamson#10) Rootbound (Lark #5) Title TBD (Lark #6) Title TBD (Lark #7) Title TBD (Lark #8) *I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Loved reading more about Larkspur and the trials she goes thru in order to help her family and her world. No matter who or what she must go up against she gives it her all. once I started reading I was so captivated with her story that I left this world and entered hers. I am looking forward to book five Rootbound where I can enter Lark's world once again to experience all the magic, love and hair raising tribulations she will face.

I received an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review. Another great book from Shannon Mayer! Lark's adventure continues to the Wind city and sets up for Elementally Priceless. A great storyline and character development will leave you jumping in to the Rylee Adamson series to prepare for the next story. A great series continues.Sent from my IPhone. Please excuse errors.

I have high expectations of Shannon Mayer these days and let me say that she never disappoints. Her writing goes from strength to strength. This is the fourth episode in Lark's adventures and the final book before Rylee's time line begins. I got a lot of satisfying answers this time round, with some blanks filled in. There are of course plenty more questions to keep us reading further and I avidly await to find out what happens next. I should say at this point that if you have not read any of the books in Lark's or Rylee's timeline then you are missing out big time and should go and start that journey as it is worth every second. If you have then you know how awesome these books are and you have no excuse but to go out and read this immediately! The ride is as wild as always and I fall for Lark just a little bit more every book. I was hotly anticipating what would happen to Lark in the wind elementals' Eyrie but not one iota of what went down was as I expected! Every time I felt I knew where things were going we went off in another direction. The journey to get there was enlightening and we encountered some people I was not expecting to see! Lark's journey, both literally and emotionally, blew me away. I laughed, I sat on the edge of my seat, was amazed and also cried a little bit. Wild horses could not stop me from reading everything that Shannon Mayer publishes and I count myself to be extremely lucky to have received an arc direct from the author herself. I will also be purchasing however as these books are just that good. I loved every second of reading this.

I have already read—and finished—Mayer's Riley Adamson series and have been waiting for some events to happen in Lark's storyline. WINDBURN brought the two story's together in Lark's timeline and ended on one of the events that I have been waiting for. After the amount of time spent in and the major events that happened in the Rim, the Deep and the Pit, I was a little surprised by how little actually happened in air's neck of the woods. In fact most of the story happened anywhere BUT in the Eyrie and most of the major events of the book didn't really have anything to do with them. What's up with that? We got some set up for some things in future books, but I can't help feeling like the Sylphs got gipped a little bit. The love triangle isn't my favorite part of the Elemental Series. I don't really know why, but I don't care much for Cactus. His jealousy I can understand, but he is a bit of a child when it comes to not getting his way. I have to agree with Peta's assessment of him. Ash on the other hand I love. He is always there for Lark and they seem to fit together really well. He has my vote all the way. WINDBURN answered a lot of questions I have had after not only reading the previous books in the series, but also from reading the Riley Adamson series. I'm very excited to see what ROOTBOUND will bring us and see Lark back in action. I gave it 3.5 stars * This book was provided free of charge from the author in exchange for an honest review.

** Given an ARC of this book in exchange of an honest review. ** Right from the start of the book, Shannon delves straight in to the next quest for Lark, picking up where the previous book ended seamlessly. You know she faces huge amounts of adversity and opposition. You also know she will accept it and battle through regardless. As the story unfolds, I was delighted with the way it weaves to tie in with the authors' other popular book series (Rylee Adamson) the crossover at times adding a whimsy to the severity of Lark's situation. Whether you are reading just the elemental series or both, the story unfolds, hinting at future problematic scenarios that may occur, further ensnaring the reader. Lark's quest and her personal journey, delight and entertain. Her fiery nature and potty mouth have you alternately laughing and despairing of her and her companions, unaware that every choice (at the time) is vital to her. It is obvious, that Shannon Mayer does not merely right one book at a time - she plans the collection of books, ensuring she plans pivotal moments in each which she effortlessly builds to the crescendo ending. I look forward to the next instalment!

I received this book as an arc for a honest review... I loved this book.. Windburn is the 4th in the series and continues on exactly where Firestorm finished.. I Love that Shannon is going back to the beginning of Larkspur story and giving us a complete picture of how Larkspur and Rylees lives intercept and how big of a part Larkspur has played.... This book answers a lot of questions, but there are plenty more questions that need to be answered.. I can't wait until book number 5 ...

I received this book as an ARC for an honest review. When you can go from 5% of a book finished to 80% without even realizing it, you know you're reading a good book! Shannon Mayer has delivered another great installment for the Elemental series. There are some major story lines revealed here and you can see not only the flow of the series upto this point but also its connection and character developments that lead into the Rylee Adamson series. Can't wait for Rootbound to be released in June!

Book 4 of The Elemental Series is another great read. Following the adventures of Larkspur the Elemental on her journey to rescue her father, The King. This story picks up where Book 3 left off and it's non-stop action from the first page. Lark faces banishment from her home if she continues on her quest. Life is never easy for our heroine but you can expect her to do what is right. Throw in some demons, a Tracker and more elementals and you get a wild ride that can't help but be stormy. I have received an ARC from the author in exchange for my honest review... I found Windburn to be very captivating... I enjoyed the story line to the point I couldn't put it down.. I was glad to read that some characters of the Rylee Adamson series intermixed with the Elemental story line... Well played Shannon... Larkspur is a very powerful Elemental... she earns the nickname of "The Destroyer" because of her elemental strength... and I love Peta.... Peta is Larkspurs familiar and she is an extraordinary cat... she helps Larkspur in many ways a super awesome read... Windburn makes Elementally Priceless in the Rylee Adamson series more understanding as to how and why Larkspurs living conditions were

ARC in exchange for an honest review- There is so much going on its really hard pinpoint what exactly I loved about this story. It’s heartbreaking, hopeful, bursting with information and twists I never saw coming. I had to take my time while reading just to digest the story. Lark seems to be making a decision after decision as to how she’s going to live her life and what rules she’s going to break. This is the end of Lark’s story from between when we find Lark in the Riley Series and what brought her there. This is a fantastic continuation of the Elemental Series and Shannon’s ability to incorporate the Riley Series without taking away from the story at hand is brilliant!

Shannon Mayer is the queen of urban fantasy and each book I read, she just gets better at her craft. This is book 4 in the Elemental Series, so if you are just starting with this one, STOP! and go back or you will be very confused! Lark is pretty much an outcast or black sheep of the royal family and her dad is kinda crazy but she still loves them all, well, most of them anyway and is always doing what's best for her family regardless of how it affects her. She is a bit immature to me in the ways of love but I enjoy reading about her escapades, so it's good with me! Lark is dealing with the air elemental in this installment and it seems that no one is ever nice when it comes to her! Tensions mount, danger arises, Lark has to make choices that are near impossible and sacrifices that will haunt her. She doesn't have it easy by any means and you will feel every emotion right along with her. *I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review*

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I am left wanting more, as in...I can't wait for the next book! I have read all of Shannon Mayer's books because she has the ability to create such complex characters and wonderful imagery. In Windburn, the characters become more dynamic, and Lark's world continues to grow. Even though the genre is Fantasy, it is easy to relate to the challenges that faced. You can allow yourself to escape into the world that has been created, and to truly root for the hero/heroine, and sometimes even for the villain! Aside from the ability to create a world that has so many sights and sounds, Mayer also has the ability to make you FEEL something! That is everything I'm looking for in a series and in an author.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review of Windburn. What a great chapter in Larkspur’s story Windburn turned out to be. I couldn’t put it down and read it in one sitting; that is just how good it is! Windburn continues Lark’s journey as she struggles to do what is right, and sometimes, what is necessary, all while trying to learn where she fits into the scheme of things. And just when I thought I had it all figured out, Ms. Mayer throws you for a loop, and you have to sit back and go, “wow!” Windburn picks up where Firestorm leaves off, with Lark heading out to the Realm of the Sylphs (Air Elementals) to find out what happened to her father. Personally, I would just let him rot wherever he is, but Lark needs to find her father so that the Rim can have stability brought back within its borders. I guess Lark is a better person than I am. During her journey, Lark meets new friends and new enemies, and even travels through the Human world, where you will also run into some familiar faces and names. Secrets come out, truths (and sometimes lies) are told, and even the Mother Goddess isn’t quite all you thought she was. Windburn does not scrimp on action, emotion and intrigue. In addition, Ms. Mayer also begins to weave Lark’s and Rylee’s lives together, and provides some much wanted (and needed) background information that makes everything start to make sense between the two storylines. For me, Lark’s adventures are turning into a magnificent tapestry; one that I cannot wait to see unfold in glorious technicolor over the next four books. Ms. Mayer is an engaging storyteller, with a vivid imagination that just reels you in, and then leaves you hanging on the hook, desperately waiting for the next installment. You become so invested in her characters and their lives, that they become family to you. I don’t know what I am going to do when this series ends, and I sincerely hope she is already planning something new for us. My final thought here is, if you are new to Ms. Mayer’s world, I would start reading the Elemental Series first, starting with Recurve, before picking up the Rylee series to read. While it is not necessary, I just think that story lines, character relationships between the two, and other subtle, but important parts of Rylee’s story will be so much clearer once you have read the Elemental Series first. Happy Reading!

I love Shannon Mayer's Elemental series. She takes you on a ride that keeps you turning the page in anticipation. Lark is a dynamic hero that you can't stop rooting for. She makes you laugh and cry- sometimes at the same time! The world of the Elemental's is rich in details. Shannon paints a picture you do not easily forget. The only thing that I dislike was the beginning. It started to abruptly and as if you just read the previous one. I had to go back to the end of the last book to refresh my memory. I would highly recommend this book and this author. I have received an ARC for my honest review.

I absolutely LOVE Shannon Mayer. She knows how to write a series and get you hooked, for sure! I have read the Rylee series and this is probably my favourite book of hers to date. It answered a LOT of questions and filled in missing pieces of Rylee's story and how hers intertwines with Lark's. This book HAD IT ALL. It had so many twists and turns I just couldn't put it down! So much is learned in this book and things you have been waiting for, happen and it all comes to the front and center and AHHH! SO MUCH HAPPENS!! I LOVE the love triangle because I love how it brings out Peta's character and the dynamic it creates between Ash, Cactus, Peta and Lark. I love all the things we learn about before Rylee's time and how it all meets. *Spoiler Alert* Some of the comments about how we "lost" time when she was locked in the oubliette, and we don't know what happened......Mayer needs to leave us curious about something!!!! I am sure what happened in that time will be revealed in coming books. I cannot wait for the next one! Great writing, great characters, great story, great series! 5 STARS! *I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review. I love the whole series and have been eagerly awaiting this installment. I was not disappointed. I love the individuality of each of the characters. They each have their own skills, and positive and negative qualities. Also, I really enjoy that Lark is a rebel. She does what she needs to do, and knows is right, even if it is scary or difficult. The Elemental Series crosses over with the Rylee Adamson Series and that takes a lot of intricacies and attention to detail. Mayer does a great job of weaving the two stories together. It is fun and interesting to get more bits of Rylee's story as Lark's story unfolds. It really sets up a complete fantasy world that is well developed and believable. **Spoiler Ahead** The only part that I didn't enjoy as much, was the time jump when Lark is first locked away in the oubliette. This is just a matter of personal preference. It seems like a lot should have happened in two years and I'm hoping we get to hear more about it. Regardless, I'm looking forward to the next installment--a lot!

I was given this book as an ARC for an honest review and I can say it was well worth the read. I love this series as well as the Rylee Adamson series (and if you haven’t read them…go get them NOW!) This is the fourth book in the series and it doesn’t fail to meet my expectations! The book was great in that it answered questions, filled in the gaps. I loved finding out about Giselle and why she is paid in stuffed animals!! There is the love triangle still going on with Lark/Ash/Cactus and I am waiting to see how all of that pans out. I cant wait till the next one!

*** I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review *** Let me just say this is, so far, my favorite in this series! Shannon Mayer is an amazing author and she delivers in this book, which is book 4 in her Elemental Series. Windburn picks up from where Firestorm (book 3) ends. The main character, Larkspur, has been asked to help find her father but in order to do so she will need to break the rules which come with steep consequences. In order to find her father Lark must first get help from a Tracker, and as is usually the case, nothing is ever as simple as it sounds. In the midst of her complicated life, she is not only faced with finding her father but also coming face to face with someone who wishes nothing more than to defeat and destroy her. All this while trying to decide which of the two men she loves will she choose, or can she even have a chance at love and a family with the life she lives. This is a series worth reading, it won't let you down whether you are new to paranormal fantasy or are an avid paranormal fantasy reader. If you are a fan of Mayer's Rylee Adamson series you will love this one. We get to experience a part of Rylee's world that we only just got a glimpse at in that series, as well as make some connections with some characters that had a place in Rylee's series.

I have received an ARC from the author in exchange for my honest review. Windburn picks up right after Firestorm ends. Bella asks Lark to find their father. In order to do this, Lark has to find a Tracker which is against the rules. Stupid rules. Along the way, we meet several characters from Rylee's world. After all Lark has done for her family she gets screwed again. The Mother Goddess is not exactly a nice person. Her father, is as always, a jerk. If you have read the Rylee books, you will know that everything that happens has to happen for a reason. It still sucks for Lark though. I hope she has something good to happen to her soon. I can't wait till the next book comes out.
