    UGH......OK.....I GUESS

Trying to learn Server 2003 with this book is ok at first. Unfortunatley the authors spend about 124 pages on Network lingo and Networking technologies instead of focusing on what most people will buy the book for. Windows Server 2003. I don't know about the majority of people, but I decided to learn Server 2003 already knowing about ethernet, cabling, routers, switches and the like. These wasted pages would've been better suited explaining such critical topics that you absolutely need to work with Server 2003 such as DNS, DHCP, and TCP/IP. The chapters on setting up printers and Active Directory were nicely setup though and will get you thru the setup rather painlessly. A welcome addition would have been explaining how to setup up Active Directory so that you can share not only files, but applications as well. Obviously a Dummies book is not what you want to buy if you're looking for a in-depth, balls-out look into Windows Server. Sadly I really can't recommened this book even for the beginner. Hopefully the next edition will drop the network concepts and concentrate on at least the basics of DNS, DHCP and TCP/IP and how to administer these features instead of just explaining what they are. Also more explaination of domains, forests and trees would have been helpful to describe how networks using Server 2003 communicate.
