Overview

Windrusher and the Trail of Fire is the third entry in the successful Windrusher Trilogy by Victor DiGenti. In the first two books, Windrusher (2004), and Windrusher and the Cave of Tho-hoth (2005), DiGenti successfully thrilled readers with the challenging and often-dangerous adventures of a special cat whose connections to a mystical world of cat gods and goddesses aided him in great times of need.

In this final installment, Windrusher again finds himself separated from his caretakers and relocated to a rural rescue operation called Precious Friends Cat Sanctuary. He is warned by none other than Rahhnut, the mythical keeper of the day globe - the sun - to beware of two-legged villains "bringing with them a fiery destruction." Windrusher soon learns his destiny is linked to Storm Wing, a legendary cat leader from the days when cats first roamed the jungles. As he faces the challenge of saving the hundreds of cats at the Sanctuary from a raging wildfire, Windrusher must rely on his own inner resources and the help of an ancient cat he's met only in his dreams.

What People Are Saying

Clea Simon
"Author Vic DiGenti has created a feline fantasy world unlike any other and it's a pleasure to return to in "Windrusher and the Trail of Fire." From the first thrilling chase through the last, DiGenti's heroic Windrusher leads readers through a wilderness in which the cats are as brave, loyal, and spiritual as any two-legged creatures, and more sensitive, to boot. Great fun."--(Clea Simon, author of Cries and Whiskers)
Dusty Rainbolt
"Enter the frustrating world of the lost cat. Where the return to home seems impossible and his fate is in his own paws. Where warnings from feline deities combine with the inner strength of a remarkable cat named Windrusher to create an epic story. Vic DiGenti's prose will transport you completely into Windrusher's world. You'll want to keep turning the pages to find out what happens, but not too quickly so you can savor each word."--(Dusty Rainbolt, Author of Cat Wrangling Made Easy: Maintaining Peace & Sanity in Your Multicat Home, Ghost Cats: Human Encounters with Feline Spirits, Kittens for Dummies, All the Marbles)
Lee Killough
Windrusher and the Trail of Fire cracks along at the speed of a bullet. DiGenti immerses the reader in a cat's secret world while building suspense with his human characters. I couldn't wait to see how it ended to be sure everything turned out all right."--(Lee Killough, author of The Leopard's Daughter)
Pamela Bauer Mueller
"GRIPPING . . . DiGenti knows how to depict complicated emotions and interactions. He paints a compelling portrait of both animals and humans in this story of self-knowledge, healing and redemption."--(Pamela Bauer Mueller, children's author)
Shirley Rousseau Murphy
"DiGenti invites the reader into a rich and secret feline world, an experience that will change and enhance all you know, or thought you knew, about cats. Windrusher's third exciting adventure will keep you involved and purring until the satisfying end."--(Shirley Rousseau Murphy, author of Cat Pay the Devil)

    Fasten Your Seatbelts

Windrusher is an extraordinary cat who communes in his sleep with other cats past and present by means of the mystical 'inner ear'. In Trail of Fire he is accidentally left behind by his family at a roadside rest stop and ends up in a nearly bankrupt cat sanctuary run by Emily O'Connell, a single woman desperately trying to fend off the takeover attempts of Philip Langston, who wants the property for his latest mega-development and who also happens to be CEO of the bank that holds her mortgage. Windrusher is sure he can easily escape from this refuge and find his way home, but a messenger in his dream informs him that he must remain and save the hundreds of other cats from certain death. Emily hatches a plan to save her land and her father's dream even as Langston plots to snatch it from her by any means necessary. Emily's long-suffering companion, Sam, and a pair of bumbling brothers round out the main cast of characters. Windrusher and the Trail of Fire is truly an old-fashioned cheer-the-hero, hiss-the-villian cliffhanger.
