But deep in his heart rages the fiercest battle of all—his soul-searing passion for the one mortal he is sworn to protect…the one woman he is doomed to love.

Parisa Lovejoy is so beautiful, and so powerful, that Antony cannot fight the feelings she arouses. But his unexpected love only intensifies his strength as her Guardian—a strength that is put to the ultimate test when Parisa is abducted. Her captor, Commander Greaves, enslaves mortal women for their blood. If Parisa hopes to survive—and ascend—she must forge an even deeper bond with Antony…in the flames of eternity.

Just OK, not as good as the first two in the series. I just couldn't warm up to Parisa. She did nothing but whine and complain during the first half of the book and the second half wasn't much better. She kept having "epiphanies" and was going to change, but then went right back to whining and complaining. I really wanted to like her cause I loved Medichi in the first two books. Parisa was like watching a ping pong game going back and forth. First she's complaining how she doesn't want anything to do with the vampire life, then she's all about becoming a warrior. Then she wants Antony, but doesn't want him and sleeps in the guest room. It was like watching a schizophrenic argue with herself. Yes, No, Maybe, I Don't Know... and then starting all over again.

In some places, the storyline seemed to drag, too much whining from Parisa and not enough actual story. The battle sequence was kind of anti climatic to me. Out of the blue, there's suddenly this big battle that's supposed to decide everything (in the Grand Canyon of all places), then it's over, and everything goes back to how it was. No real changes, just a lot of people dead. And why is it Luken who always seems to get demolished? I wonder sometimes if he will survive to make it to his own breh-hedden story.

It seemed to take forever to get through this book. I finished it just so I could move on to the next in the series. I'm hoping that Jean-Pierre and Fiona's story will be better.

The latest Guardians of Ascension vampire romantic thriller is a terrific tale

Three months ago the winged Warrior of the Blood Antony Medichi lost his woman who was abducted. He knows she is special as he is her Guardian of Ascension who failed to protect her. Antony realizes his beloved breh haden soul mate Parisa Lovejoy is an anomaly with her beauty, intelligence and power. He vows to find and rescue her from the malevolent Roth, agent of even more evil Commander Greaves.

Antony also continues to hunt down the invading death vampires and other rogue vampires who harm Earth. Meanwhile death vampire Commander Greaves, who kidnaps female mortals to drink their blood, vampire knows his latest captive Parisa is special due to her voyeur skills. Her only hope for salvation and saving other blood slaves resides with Antony if she accepts her Guardian as her eternal soul mate.

The latest Guardians of Ascension vampire romantic thriller (see The Burning Skies and Ascension) is a terrific tale as Caris Roane provides more insight into the divided vampire culture though the actions and reactions of the cast. The three prime characters make a delightful paranormal triangle as the death vampire plans to drink the blood of the Ascension whose soul mate is coming in an enjoyable urban fantasy.

    Awesome!

Great series! The chemistyr between Parisa and Warrior Medichi is hot, hot and extremely hot! I did get irritated with Parisa's personal issues. I felt they were too weak and drugged out too long, in comparsion to others. Looking forward to the stories of the other Warriors and the story of Fiona and Warrior Jean-Pierre.

    Only 1 thing missing...

I LOVE this series! All of the previous stories made the point that was missing from this one. Parisa and Antony never explored his tragedy...no discussion of his scars, his wifes assault and his feelings about it. That he shut down and rocked back and forth while in captivity, reliving it, but no depth was given. I expected something during the breh-hedden but, it was just glossed over as a horrible memory. Hopefully it gets back on track with the next story.

Wings of Fires it the fourth installment in Caris Roane's Ascens

Wings of Fires it the fourth installment in Caris Roane's Ascension series. I enjoyed Ascension (the book), I saw great promise in Burning Skies, I smiled through the novella Brink of Eternity and I was totally and completely spellbound by Wings of Fire. Caris Roane has hit her stride and this story is a wondrous mix of fantasy, fable and a good old fashioned romance.

Antony Medichi, a Warrior of the Blood for well over 13 centuries had been struck with the Breh-Hedden, the meeting of his destined mate. Until recently the breh-hedden had been considered myth on Second Earth but slowly each of the Warriors of the Blood has been meeting his. One of the first sings of the breh-hedden is a distinct sense of smell. Each partner smells a certain flower/fruit/spice only when the other is around and the more aroused one is, the more the give off the scent. It is actually humorous at times to watch these strong men react to it. Antony, having ascended in approx the year 700 had watched his wife and unborn child die in a brutal death before he was left for dead. Finding himself a subject of ascension, he hardened his heart and determined never again. Of course destiny had other plans for him.

Parisa Lovejoy (yes I know but once you stop giggling over the name, it gets better) mild mannered librarian, was known as the mortal with wings. An anomaly, her wings formed before she even received her call to ascension. Although, because of her powers she was able to voyeuristicly see what was happening on Second Earth. She understood that it was a dimension at war and was working to save not just Second Earth but Mortal Earth as well. But knowing something and being a part of it are two different things. At the end of Burning Skies she had all but decided to refuse ascension. To ignore the breh-hedden and go back to her quiet life as a Librarian, well a librarian with wings.

Before she could put her plans into motion, she was captured and held by a servant of Commander Greaves. All she had to keep her sane was her ability to somehow connect with Antony.. Three long months of captivity helped change her mind about ascension but still she doubted the breh-hedden. It's reliability and even it's worth. Did she want to make that kind of commitment, was she even able to?

Together, these two must find out if love comes with the breh-hedden. If are capable of loving someone that much and if they want to. Along with the fact that there is a war going on. That their destiny was much more than a mated pair. That their gift offered peace to a warring world.. And they had to learn how to use to work together to use their powers.

Along with the main characters we get to see more of the Warriors of the Blood, enjoy how the previous mated pairs are settling into their relationships and power. AND, we finally get to meet the mysterious James, an ascender from 6th Earth who has been trying to help as much as he is able.. of course politics from above are keeping his hands tied as well. Greaves has come into much power and over the past two decades has learned the art of propaganda.. and of course evil always looks pretty and nice.. and Endelle is an erratic whack job at best.. it's easy to see why she would not be considered the poster child for an entire government. But her heart is huge and her desire to save Second Earth is strong so battle on she does, with the Warriors of the Blood at her side.

This series is becoming a MUST read for me.
