This was the very first poker book I picked up when I decided I wanted to improve my game, and it was probably the best decision I could have made. While not without its drawbacks, the book is very clearly written and provides an outstanding introduction to many poker concepts. The book does have its critics though, who argue that the recommended playing style is too passive and while I agree with this characterization, I think it¿s important to keep in mind the author¿s target audience. The seasoned poker player probably won¿t find much of value here, but as an only recreational player, I found that it improved my game immensely. After a few months of mastering the techniques, though, you¿ll be ready to move on to more advanced books such as Sklansky and Malmuth¿s. Nonetheless, the material here helped turn me into a winning player at the lower limit Atlantic City games, and against the terrible players that can be found playing online these days ¿ following up on another post here about sign-up bonus codes, I found that pokercroaker.com keeps their bonus codes updated, if you¿re going to start playing online. When you want to move up in limits, you¿ll probably want to pick up Hold¿em Poker for Advanced Players or Small Stakes Hold¿em, which advocate more aggressive play, but for any and all low to moderate stakes games, this book gives great advice.
