Overview

She's got nothing left to lose …

With her fiancé suddenly engaged to another and her reputation in tatters, Merribeth Wakefield needs a bold plan to reclaim her life. She must be brave. Confident. She must … kiss a rake? The suggestion is ludicrous! Yet when Merribeth finds herself alone with the dark and brooding Lord Knightswold, suddenly the plan doesn't seem so farfetched. So she does something she never thought she'd do—she kisses him.

But he has everything to gain …

The Marquess of Knightswold—Bane to most—has no use for the affections of women. Well, none lasting longer than a single night. A plot for revenge weighs heavy on his mind, leaving no room for romance. But then a shy, witty miss borrows a kiss from him in a darkened room, and everything he thought he knew about innocent debutantes vanishes along with her.

When a twist of fate brings Merribeth within Bane's grasp, he'll have to resist her charms—or risk losing everything—for the sake of his heart.

Meet the Author

Vivienne Lorret loves romance novels, her pink laptop, her husband, and her two teenage sons (not necessarily in that order ... but there are days). When she isn't writing, you might find her in line at Starbucks, eager to refuel with a chai latte and randomly handing out crocheted cup-cozies with a way-too-much-caffeine smile on her face.

Loved the second book in this trilogy. Maribeth has been waiting for her almost fiancee to propose for five years. On the day she feels certain he is to propose, he dumps her instead. As they say, the best way to get over someone . . . Well, straight into the arms of Bane, notorious rake, she goes. The story line is pretty standard. Wallflower meets rake, he reforms upon realizing that she is the only person in the world who can complete him. But this story was truly charming. Even if the secondary character of Lady Eve and her beau could have been explored a tad more fully or made a tad more sense. Still, the main story is sure to capture your fancy for a good, fun couple of hours.

Cliched and unsophisticated, this reads like a high-schooler's attempt at a romance novel.  I get that romance novels
are formulaic; it's part of their charm. But this one has overused and often mocked cliches like "fibers of
{whomever's} soul" used more than once.  The terrible writing pulls the reader right out of the story. The rest of the
descriptions come right out of Romance Writing 101, lacking any originality or interesting takes on old tropes. Added
to that is a lackluster heroine who is rather annoying and a hero that is supposed to be a bad boy but ends up tepid
and lame. The external obstacles weren't much in the way of obstacles, and I think there was a twist, but it was hard
to tell under so much purple prose. I wish I had saved myself the .99 cents and the time it took to read this mess.

    A nice read

I liked the caracters and i thought for the most part the plot was believeable. I liked that thr girl wasnt the 'stunning beauty that was perfect' he liked her for her personality. Also that they got to know each other before sleepimg together. Ending was unbeliveable but i think the author wanted to get it with everythinng bein perfect so whatever.
