Overview

Lavishly illustrated and endlessly inspiring, Winter House is the ultimate guide to creating a place—and a frame of mind—that will bring you joy throughout the years.

A winter house is a place to recharge your body and your spirit. Whether you spend the season on the slopes or in a cozy apartment in a snowy city, you can capture that feeling of warmth and welcome in your own home.

In Winter House, acclaimed interior designer Charlotte Moss shows how to transform your home into a beautiful and inviting retreat. Using her own quintessential winter house as an example, Moss demonstrates how rich, patterned fabrics, gorgeous tableware, and other unique design details combine in a warm and sumptuous environment.

Within Winter House are spaces for every purpose, from inviting areas designed to accommodate festive gatherings of family and friends to calming escapes for private relaxation and reflection. As she moves through each room, Moss shares her techniques and tips, including her favorite “Little Luxuries,” which are simple concepts adaptable to any environment, such as a bed tray for enjoying breakfast under the covers. And because, as Moss says, “A winter house is too good not to share,” there is a host of innovative ideas for entertaining guests and for holiday decorating.

Winter House is the perfect reference for creating your own winter sanctuary.

More than just a home, a winter house is a frame of mind. —Charlotte Moss

No better design book for 2006 holiday giving

I have had this book for a year and continue to enjoy it, learn from it, and be inspired by it. Guests are drawn to it, and some attempt to take it with them because the attentions lavished on Ms. Moss's guests are so appealing. Honestly, this is the most beautiful book with lovely copy to explain her philosophy and tastes. Divine! I gave friends this book last year and it will be one of my gifts this year as well. This book has legs!

Winter House - a great design book to read this summer!!!

In my opinion, Charlotte Moss 'rules' the design world. This book clearly shows her classic decorating style interspersed with surprises and the unexpected, but still traditional. Charlotte, always true to her Southern heritage and Virginia roots, brings common sense with a flair for style to her winter home in Aspen, Colorado. The book is full of lavish photos and great design hints. Now when winter comes I can use some of her ideas to decorate my own 'winter home'. A truly great book from a great designer.
