The first of these, Village School, was published in 1955, and Miss Read continued to write until her retirement in 1996. In the 1998, she was awarded an MBE, or Member of the Order of the British Empire, for her services to literature.

I've read the paperback version of this book at least twice now, and enjoyed it enough to buy this digital version. I wish I hadn't. The book was painful to get through because of all the TYPOS. The word "time" was spelled "rime". "Betty Bell" became "Betty Bed". Honestly, I think every 2 pages had at least one typo - I'm not kidding. I know these errors are not in the hard printed version, so it must be a digital translation problem. With all these typos, this e-book is not worth the price.
