Overview

In the early 1980s, George Winston's "seasonal" solo piano albums created a revolution of simplicity, a return to pure melody, elegance of line, and exquisite embellishment. Winston makes it all sound easy, and his phenomenal success inspired hundreds of pianists to follow his path. His 1982 WINTER INTO SPRING features beautiful, spare, affecting melodies and quietly blocked chords that often yield to wondrous flurries of colorfully expressive lyricism. An aural impressionist, George Winston could easily have been a painter with his visually suggestive playing. Listen to "Blossom / Meadow" and you'll hear a master at his craft. Close your eyes and you'll see and feel the changing landscape and participate musically in the renewal of life. It's all right there in the remarkable hands of George Winston.

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - William Ruhlmann
In a sense, this second seasonal album follows an opposite direction from Autumn, its hard, isolated notes and stop-and-start style gradually giving way from the stasis of winter to the growth and movement of spring. It's a good album for beginning your day.

Wow. This is seriously some of the most beautiful music I've ever heard. I listen to primarily punk and metal, yet George Winston is in constant circulation in my CD player. Fantastic. Good for thinking, hanging out, taking a nap. There isn't a bad time to listen to this music. I'd give this 100 stars if I could!!
