Meet the Author

Lois McMaster Bujold was born in 1949, the daughter of an engineering professor at Ohio State University, from whom she picked up her early interest in science fiction.  She now lives in Minneapolis, and has two grown children.  She began writing with the aim of professional publication in 1982.  She wrote three novels in three years; in October of 1985, all three sold to Baen Books, launching her career. Bujold went on to write many other books for Baen, mostly featuring her popular character Miles Naismith Vorkosigan, his family, friends, and enemies.  Her books have been translated into twenty-one languages.  Her fantasy from Eos includes the award-winning Chalion series and the Sharing Knife series.

Page layout is triple spaced and you can't change it. It also has the left margin in the middle of the page where it writes over it self and you can't read it. You can't adjust it to fix it. The book is totally unreadable in this foremat. You ought to get your money back or a credit on another book.

chocofan, you can buy the vorkosigan novels in epub format from baen books. do a google search and you'll get a link to the webscriptions site in which you can buy not only Bujold's books, but books from many other scifi and fantasy authors as well. also, they also have free downloads of some books. quite a few of the authors have a few of their older books or first book in a series for free to get you to try out authors you may not have read before. you'll need to download books that you buy or get for free onto a desktop or laptop and then link your nook to your computer to transfer the book over to your nook. the books will show up in your my documents section.

I bought this Nook book from the Bujold Vorkosigan Saga "Winterfair Gifts" on Jan. 15, 2013. I'm sure the book is wonderful, and I'm a big fan of the Vorkosigan Saga, but the copy that was downloaded was not readable, the pages not formatted for Nook. I'm still waiting on Feb. 8 for Barnes and Noble to replace it with a readable Nook book.

its nice to be able to get these shorter things on the Nook since it can be difficult to get them if they're published on paper with another book. However, though it was interesting to get more of Taura's story this felt more as if it would be suited to a subplot within a fatter novel rather than a stand alone story. Fine for Vor fans but not an intro or hook to someone not familiar with the milieu.

This did not have the action and dramatic tension of the other Vorkosigan stories. However, it was a nice read.

"Winterfair Gifts" was added to "Komarr" and "A Civil Campaign" when the compilation "Miles in Love" was published. Since I'd read both the full length novels, I missed this little gem of a wedding story, as Sgt Taura & other galactics come for Miles & Ekaterin's wedding. Elli Quinn isn't there in person, but her presents & presence are central to the story. Fans of the Vorkosigan Saga will greatly enjoy this novella.

This is a great story for either a long time fan of Ms. Bujold's Vor books or anyone new to the books. As always Ms. Bujold's story telling is crisp, funny, and gripping. If you have not read this books before I can highly recommend them. If you have never or seldom read science fiction this will be a delightful introduction for you.
