Editorial Reviews

Patheos - Heather Curtis
“Harrell’s meditations place each person firmly in historical context, while also calling forth the eternal verities and values that the saints (and near saints) offer to contemporary Christian pilgrims. The result is a book that is delightfully creative and rigorously honest, sometimes funny and other times melancholy, often intensely challenging and always profoundly gracious." -- Heather Curtis, Associate Professor of Religion, Tufts University
Patheos - Tony Jones
"You'd think that some of the church fathers (and mothers) would come into the 21st century kicking and screaming, but in the masterful hands of Daniel Harrell, they come quite willingly. We have a lot to learn from these old saints, and this book is a great place to start learning from them."-- Tony Jones, theologian, blogger, and author of A Better Atonement: Beyond the Depraved Doctrine of Original Sin
Patheos - Chris Armstrong
“The wisdom of the Christian saints—those passionate, brilliant, broken, flawed people—has a much longer shelf life than most folks today would guess. These forebears of ours just need a communicator like Daniel Harrell to call them out of their musty past and allow them to speak again in their unique and irreplaceable voices. - Chris Armstrong, Director, Institute for Faith and Vocation, Wheaton College; Senior Editor, Christian History magazine; author of Patron Saints for Postmoderns
Patheos - Christian Winn
“Harrell's ability to turn a phrase and to connect the lives and doctrine of these great luminaries to the perennial questions of faith makes for an accessible and engaging read."- ~ Christian T. Collins Winn, Associate Professor of Historical and Systematic Theology, Chair of Biblical Studies Dept, Bethel University
