Can Cassie earn all seven charms and become a true Lucky Star?
This new series, "Lucky Stars," is about Cassie, a seven-year-old who is in training to become a Lucky Star—someone who makes people's wishes come true. Cassie has a magical bracelet and every time she helps someone's wish come true she gets another charm for her bracelet. Each charm gives Cassie a magical power. In this book, Cassie meets Stella Starkeeper who introduces her to what being Lucky Star means and the powers she gets with each charm. Cassie is involved with different situations through this story and each time she thinks she hears someone making a wish she offers to help. But Cassie learns that she can help make wishes come true even when she does not realize that she is doing it. Cassie's adventures will entertain middle readers, particularly girls. Boys will not be as eager to read these stories since they are based on a girl and it is geared toward girly dreams and ideas. Bright does a nice job having Cassie make wishes come true for others in a way that allowed the reader to feel that maybe, they too could help other's wishes come true. The illustrations by Donnelly do not detract from the story but simply add drawings for the reader to enjoy. Parents or teachers who do not want their children to read about magic or the like will not enjoy this book. However, the book is more about making wishes come true in everyday ways than through magic and for that it is recommended. Reviewer: Beth-Anne White
