Overview

Oceanborn wasn't just a hit in Finland, it also opened new doors for Nightwish abroad. So naturally, the pressure to come up with a comparable sophomore album was enormous. Rarely does a band fulfill the demands of a second album successfully, and Nightwish is no exception. Even though Wishmaster is mainly targeted to radio and pop audiences, it does succeed somewhat. Even more demanding listeners will find this as enjoyable as they did Oceanborn, but Wishmaster isn't as consistent as that album was. The same patterns repeat, and every track's hook is based on a powerful intro and a simple chorus. Their charm is in their overflowing drama and, as it was on their first album, the whole concept can be described as "operatic metal." It may sound inventive and full of potential for a while, but as a whole album (and with this release it's two albums), it can be a little annoying, even frustrating. Still, a lot of listeners will enjoy it; after all, it does have its moments. [A Japanese version included bonus tracks.]

Nightwish has to be one of the most musically talented bands alive. They need to come to the states I'm sure most of us here would love to see them here. JUCA ROCKS.

Like Oceanborn: Vocals are good, keyboards, drums, and guitars too but the level of the songs are lower. "Bare Grace Misery" and "Crownless" remains so much the other tracks but are more simple that you may feel sick and tired after listening this three times.

I discovered Nightwish while listening to a Russian Heavy Metal radio station on the Internet. I have never heard anything like that before. I was blown away by Tarja's voice on The Kingslayer and had to get Wishmaster. I have since recommended Nightwish to friends and family. I will be getting the rest of their CDs as well as the DVD as soon as it is available in the States!!

Wishmaster is my favorite Nightwish album lyric- wise. I have always thought the lyrics were very strong and very alluring on this album. The lyrics of Wishmaster seem to hold my attention more than any of their other albums.

First of all, Nightwish is the best band ever. This CD is truly great. Tuomas did a great job with the lyrics and is amazing with the synthesizers. Tarja sings so beautifully, Emppu is an awesome guitarist, Jukka is great on Drums, and Sami is a good bassist. If only all the mainstream bands had this much talent. If you like music that has depth and meaning, you will love Nightwish.

This album is really a masterpiece, the sound and the vocals are much more mature than the other albums. This is the album recommended for people who want to taste the Nightwish music.

I was into mainstream, but now I love bands like Nightwish, Sonata Artica, After Forever, Ortary, and many others. Anyway about this CD... Nightwish ROCKS! The album overall is excellent, and now I'll rate the songs i have listened to so far.(I got this CD yesterday). 1.She Is My Sin 10/10 This is a really cool song. I LOVE the chorus. Tarja sounds really good! 2.The Kinslayer 8/10 This is an okay song. The guy's voice is cool at first but then it gets annoying. But don't get me wrong, I think this is a creative song. 4. Wanderlust 10/10 I LOVE this song! The guitars are great, and the lyrics are so imagenative! #6 or 7.Wishmaster 7/10 I think the drums are really cool. But it would be sooo much better if the chourus wasn't done two times at the beginning. 8.Crownless 10/10 WOW!!! This is my fav. song on the CD so far! The guitars, lyrics, vocals, drums...everything is GREAT!!

I am a long time fan of Nightwish, which is clearly amongst my most beloved musical artists. I believe that they are the commanding voice in poetic Scandinavian metal--not to mention that Tarja has what I must consider the most amazing voice to ever define this musical genre. This is a wonderful album, the first I ever owned. The amazing keyboard layering paired with stunning and vivid vocals, all backed by excellent percussion and guitar work creates a fantastic and unique musical atmosphere. Highly recommended. This particular album displays some of their strongest vocals in my opinion, so I would definitely pick it up. I love this band so much--congrats on "Once" going double platinum!! Number one on the charts in Finland and Hungary ^^

This is my favorite Nightwish album this far, I have yet to listen to Once, so I'm not sure about that. All I know is that this album rocks! Literally! The lyrics are awesome and Tarja's vocals are amazing! Emppu is awesome with the guitar as well as Sami and Jukka has great drumming skills. I'm forgetting probably the most important person, the great Tuomas, the writer of all the great lyrics and great keyboardist. They should come to the states!
