Holly Cathers's world shatters when her parents are killed in a terrible accident. Wrenched from her home in San Francisco, she is sent to Seattle to live with her relatives, Aunt Marie-Claire and her twin cousins, Amanda and Nicole.

In her new home, Holly's sorrow and grief soon give way to bewilderment at the strange incidents going on around her. Such as how any wish she whispers to her cat seems to come true. Or the way a friend is injured after a freak attack from a vicious falcon. And there's the undeniable, magnetic attraction to a boy Holly barely knows.

Holly, Amanda, and Nicole are about to be launced into a dark legacy of witches, secrets, and alliances, where ancient magics yield dangerous results. The girls will assume their roles in an intergenerational feud beyond their wildest imaginations...and in doing so, will attempt to fulfill their shared destiny.

Editorial Reviews

KLIATT
In a continuation of Witch, Holly Cathers learns that Jer, a warlock who helped her, is still alive and vows to find him. One of her cousins, Nicole, has run away to Germany in order to save herself but feels bad about leaving Holly and her sister Amanda to fend for themselves. As things heat up between the Cathers/Anderson Coven and the Supreme Coven, Warlock Michael Deveraux swears to get rid of all the Cahors witches. Holly has to use her powers to save her friends and to keep searching for Jer, who had gone against his father. The story moves from place to place as the rival covens feud and Holly tries to learn her destiny. Readers of the first book will enjoy the second one. (sequel to Wicked: Witch). From The Critics
Gr 7 Up-In this second book in the series, Holly and her cousins Amanda and Nicole are still ensconced in a feud with the evil Deveraux warlocks. Nicole is traveling throughout Europe trying to deny that she is a witch and to avoid giving in to the guilt she feels for having abandoned her family and the coven. Ghostly ancestors from both sides-some decomposing, some inhabiting their relatives' bodies, some seemingly intact-help to fuel the animosity between the clans. Unfortunately, the great battle (and the assumed climax of the story) stops abruptly, without giving readers any clue as to why. The plot is confusing and transports characters from one time period to another, one astral plane to the next, with little explanation. There are too many characters and too many subplots to keep track of, and nothing seems resolved or completely fleshed out. There is not a single sympathetic character in the bunch, and it is difficult to tell throughout much of the book the difference between the good guys and the bad.-Kimberly L. Sure, if you savor human and cat sacrifices, I don't.

OK, I'm no wuss. I dissected a human body myself in med school. I'm a big fan of vampires and Buffy and Wiccan stuff, and have enjoyed other Nancy Holder books. I bravely got through about 600 pages of 'Wicked' with the bad guys killing and human sacrificing and burning women and children. So many human sacrifices to the devil in this book, I can't even count. But when the supposed heroine of this novel drowns the sweet, struggling household cat familiar in the bathtub as a sacrifice to the Goddess of all things, that's when I threw this book in the trash where it belongs. It's one thing (although revolting) when the bad guys do this, but the heroine of the book? Not for teens, unless you have antisocial tendencies and enjoy serial killings of humans and animals. No thanks, I've got enough filth stuck in my head already. This isn't fun to me. The whole point of neo-Goddess stuff is to get away from male God cruelty and mercilessness, but apprently Nancy Holder gets off on this cruelty, and then dedicates this Book of Slaughter to her daughter. Disgusting.

    I really liked this series...

I had no intentions of liking this series when I started reading it, but it definately caught my attention. I had just finished reading the Twilight series and I wanted to read another sci-fi series like that, but not about vampires. This was a great choice for me. If a book doesn't catch my attention in the first few chapters, I'll put it down and never pick it up again. I was captivated from the very first chapter of the series. In the first 2 chapters I had gotten a little confused between the time changes and points of view, but I quickly caught up and couldn't put the books down.

Picked it up last year while visiting my sister.

There is not a Barnes & Noble or any other bookstore for that matter within 75 miles of where I live, so while visiting my sister last year I stepped into one. I was looking around for something to go with the time of year(halloween) and saw the set on the counter near the middle of the store. I thought the cover looked great and the price was in my range so I bought them. I have read them twice now. I love the story line and am currently working on my third time reading them. I just wish that the author would make another installment. I would love to see what Holly is doing now, and how Amanda and Nicole are doing.

I liked it, caution in reccomending it !!

This book was hard for me to get into. Past to present, back and forth. Once I got past the first couple of chapters, I couldn't put it down. The story is very detailed and is thought provoking. There are some very disturbing parts, but I think the writer used it as part of the characters development; decisions, right from wrong, consequences of actions, confusion, helplessness. I am not in any way condoning what the main character does at one point, but I think it helps to explain her struggle and then the consequencces of her actions.

This bok is not for everyone. I can definately see that religious issues could cause a great stir. If one reads it as a story I believe they will enjoy the character development and the outcome (consequences for your actions). This book is definately for the older reader (high school and above).

    Wicked

This book kept me up in the wee hours of the night reading. It was a great read with both good and evil characters and jaw-dropping scenes. I get the creeps when I think about this series though! The storyline is just so...wow. It was great though and I highly recommend it.

The First Dark Fiction Novel to Ever Meet Expectations! Excellent!

Completely in love with this series. It is the first fiction novel about magic and witches that has ever been passionate and realisitc. There are in depth characters with their own strengths and weakness that creates an episode of thrilling inner and outer conflicts. The begining is slow, but the reader is almost instantly thrown into a bank of struggling relationships and the race for survival begins in this captivating novel. It is not the tradtional love triangle with two amazing men who would do anything for her. The struggle for life and love forces even the best characters to do dark things that will change the story forever. Brilliant! Unfortgettable! Wicked!

    ....

i read this book, and i was hooked, its very original but i don't think that it will be pleasurable for everybody to read, but absolutely loved it, mostly because, its not predictable, like i don't wanna spoil anything but the end of witch got me screaming for me, and to be honest, it surpassed all my expectations, especially whit the whole story between isabeau and jean, but i have to warn you: you must read carefully the whole book because it is set in many time periods which was kind of confusing at first. one thing i didn't like about the book tough was the constant dead people in it, they killed practically anybody if they didn't know what to do with him later in the book, but other than that, the story is very captivating and everything seems very real.

    Pay Attention

When I started reading these books I focused on what was going on in the present the most, BIG MISTAKE. I thought the first few "flash backs" (not to give anything away) were just explaining current things but that storyline gets just as confusing as the other going on in the present day. Pay close attention to BOTH sets of stories or you'll start to go "what?" near the end!!!

    Its wicked...

To be completely honest, witches arent my thing, but this series surprised me in how good it is! I was looking for a book to read this summer and i bought this one out of chance to see if i liked it. It was really good and i love Nancy Holder and how she combines her series. Its not my favorite book but its one that i would definately recommend to anyone. I love how Holly just changes out of no where, i thought as always that the main character is always the good little girl who is in love and is the most powerful one and gets whatever she wants in the end. However Holly is different and that is exactly what i expect in a good book-something different.

    Amazing

I feel in love with this book from page one. Nancy's and Debbies writing is excellent you can like litteratly see the surroundings in your head as she is describing what the room looks like. Yeah there are some grammar mistakes but SO WHAT. Also i found it funny when i was reading like it said something about Nicole having dark curls and then it was like 50 pages latter and it said red hair i was like what. But yea probably nancy wrote her with either dark curls or read hair or debbie did. But overall i loved the story i loved the lttile flashbacks that were in the book it was really good and i would read it again, but i got other books to read so i won't.

    Interesting but excruciating

I've read a few pretty dark books so this one doesnt really bother me. The magic is interesting but the occasional french gets irritating because you have to guess what they are saying or just completly ignore it unless you speak it. Holly and the cousins all get on my nerves because they dont have any depth. You get to hear what they are thinking to themselves but they just dont seem real enough. This girl in my art class recomended this book to me so I feel like I have to finish it so that when she wants to discuss it I can have something to say other then "It was really hard to get into so I only got about a third of the way through the first one." After I return Witch & Curse shes going to want to give me the second one which I'm not really looking forward to. I've definently read better but this book is decent enough that occasionally a little bit of my interest is sparked but not enough that I could read it in one sitting. Since I opened this book of completed two others on the side. It cant keep my attention very well.

    Too much, too fast.

This story would have been much better if it had been spread out through 3 or four books. Instead it's like the authors tried crushing a series as big as all the Harry Potter books into one. It was to much information, and it was all rushed.

    Very dark

I enjoy reading the anything to do with magic and vampires but this one is way tooo dark for me. Im reading the second just to know how it ends. but the demons and creatures and dark magic are a bit of a turn away.
