Overview

A brutal murder.
There are scratches on Csar Hawkes arms, a discharged Glock on his coffee table, and a dead woman in his bathtub. Yeah, maybe he brought the waitress home for some fun he was too drunk to remember it but he knows for a fact that he didnt kill her. Hes an agent with the Office of Preternatural Affairs. He doesnt hurt people. He saves them.

The cops disagree. Now Csar is running.

The search for a shaman.
Isobel Stonecrow speaks with the deadfor the right price. She brings closure to the bereaved and heals broken hearts. But when she resurrects someone for the wrong client, she ends up on the OPAs most wanted list.

One risky solution.
Tracking down Isobel is the last case assigned to Csar before he bolts. If he finds her, he can prove that he didnt kill that waitress. He can clear his name, get his job back, and bring justice to the victim.

Shes just one witch. Csar has bagged a dozen witches before.

How hard can one more be?

I received a copy from the author in exchange for my honest review, so here it is. I love S.M. Reine and her urban fantasy world that she lives in and shares with us. Cesar Hawke is out celebrating with his coworkers after he catches another criminal. But when he wakes the next morning then hangover is not the only bad thing going on. He finds a dead woman in his bathtub and can't remember what happened. Soon he finds himself in LAPD custody and waiting for the (OPA) Office of Preternatural Affairs to get him released. When help doesn't arrive, he decides to bust out and prove he is not guilty. Things go from bad to worse for Cesar. He has to find Isobel Stonecrow, a witch that speaks to the dead, to get her to help him talk to Erin, the dead woman in his bathtub. Now, Cesar and Isobel are on the run. Can Isobel really talk to the dead? Will she help Cesar to prove he is innocent? Can Cesar trust anyone with the OPA or Union? Another fantastic start to a great series by a fabulous author and I LOVED it and can't wait for more.

This is my fist introduction to S.M. Reine and my first Urban Fantasy read outside of the Dresden Files. I purchased the book in a set called Sinners & Sorcerers for my Nook and I was extremely pleased that this was the first title. This book had me from the beginning and I found myself completely engaged with the main character, Caesar, and his plight. The pacing of the story keeps steady through the entire book and gets you more and more invested in the plot as it unfolds. Caesar's back story didn't just get me more invested in his character, it made me rethink every conclusion I came to. If you want a fun, fast-paced, and well plotted mystery that features characters full of depth and personality then look no further. I highly recommend you read Witch Hunt!

Great story with the perfect amount of mystery, romance, action, and suspense. Interesting too because it is written from a male perspective and for once the man remains masculine

Good start to a series,a little raunchy almost like she was trying for a Sam Spade meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
