All Music Guide - Andrew Leahey
On some college campuses, a cappella groups have become as common as frat parties and writing seminars. The phenomenon is almost exclusively collegiate -- most singers find that their glory days are bookended by their acceptance into the group and graduation -- which makes Straight No Chaser's success all the more unusual.
The group is comprised entirely of former Indiana University students, all of whom sang in college before turning their undergrad hobby into a professional career. What separates these guys from other vocal groups is the fact that they still sound like a college ensemble, right down to the vocal percussion and nonsense syllables that mimic the sound of real instruments. That's not meant to downplay their talent; all the members sing quite well on this album, with Michael Luginbill and Jerome Collins leading a strong pack of soloists. In a genre that's become increasingly dominated by studio enhancement (which, with the flick of a button, can transform a human voice into a snare drum or electric guitar), Straight No Chaser take a somewhat organic approach, relying less on the capabilities of the soundboard and more on the classic appeal of nuanced, textured arrangements. As a result, With a Twist presents a sharper, mature version of the music these guys performed in school, with songs by Jason Mraz, Coldplay, and Oasis dotting the track list. It's also one of the biggest "real world" success stories of collegiate a cappella, an album that owes its existence to the campus but targets a larger set of listeners.

    Must Smile Music!

Straight No Chaser's latest CD "With a Twist" is simply impossible not to enjoy! My 19 year-old daughter and I attended a live performance recently and loved every minute of it. I purchased the new CD and now re-live the wonderful moments of the concert, whether I'm in the car or on a run with my IPod. There's a huge variety of music, all featuring the most extraordinary acapella music you'll ever hear. The tight-knit harmonies are rich, pure and glorious! While some songs are soulful and poignant, others are simply made for smiling. Savor each track on this very special CD!

    Great Fun

This soundtrack has great personality, originality and the most unique performance of any band out there. It's a great buy, I have never once regretted buying it. My family loves to listen to it all the time, especially in the car, and they love to sing. It is such a blast to sing to, I have had more fun with this style music than any other I have encountered. The effects are totally realistic and incredible! These guys really know their stuff. Terrific talent and brilliant idea! Great job Straight No Chaser!! Keep it up!! Give us more please!!!

    Pure harmonies NOT studio corrections.

Wow, finally a CD of "Straight No Chaser" that I can listen to sometime other than Christmas. Ever since the first time I saw these guys on a YouTube video singing their inventive version of "The 12 Days of Christmas" I've been hooked. Their harmonies are amazing. It's impossible to believe there's no instruments, just their voices singing a cappella, extraordinary! This CD has "One Voice" with Barry Manilow singing. Combined with these ten guys the result is a showcase of incredible vocal abilities not to be missed. My favorite song on this CD is "I'm Yours / Somewhere Over The Rainbow", it's just a light and happy tune. If you appreciate harmonies rather than studio magic then you'll appreciate this music. Also look for their CD "Christmas Cheers"

    Solid effort

This is a good turn after 2 great Christmas albums. I was hoping for a little more creativity in combining songs that don't seem to go together (Toto's Africa in the Twelve Days of Christmas). A great cd to listen to driving in the car. Found myself singing along to several songs. Would recommend to everyone.
