Overview

Love was never part of his plan…until it pounced.

As heir to an old and proud heritage, Aubrey Reynolds works and lives for his family, his employees and his pack. Agreeing to watch after a visiting werewolf is no big deal—until he discovers the newcomer is his mate. His very male mate…which is a very big deal, indeed. Revealing his sexuality was never part of Aubrey’s well-ordered life plan.

Much as he loved caring for his eight younger brothers, Matt Mahihkan knows it’s time to grab the opportunity to attend college in Atlanta. Realizing Aubrey is his mate should have been a delightful experience…except Aubrey treats him more like a dirty little secret than a lover. Yet Matt is a patient man. Aubrey can’t stay in the closet forever. Can he?

In time, they settle into a comfortable, if complicated, routine. Until a rogue werewolf with an axe to grind forces Aubrey to add to the wedge of secrets driving him and Matt apart, leaving Matt exposed to danger…and Aubrey forced to choose between love and duty.

Warning: Contains color abuse with a really bad sense of fashion, a southern accent from hell, sex on antique furniture, a pouncing playful werewolf, obnoxious siblings, liberal use of a color identifier and impatient sex. No lightning bugs were harmed in the making of this book.

    Fantastic Read

J.L. Langley is one of my favorite authors and I just love the With or Without series. The way she writes makes you feel like you're part of the story. She draws a good mental image of the characters and their lives. With Abandon is the fourth installment in this series and it's an excellent addition.

If you have never read a book in the With or Without series here is a little background. This is a world of shape-shifting werewolves who live in our world undiscovered by humans. They live everyday life like the rest of us, they just get all furry once a month. Werewolves are given one mate, the one person they will love above all others. Being mated is an unbreakable connection between two people.

This story revolves around Matt Mahihkan and Aubrey Reynolds. These two men are defiantly what happens when opposites attract. Matt is younger than Aubrey by ten years, but he is not your typical young male. Matt is loving and caring for others, it's just part of his nature. Aubrey on the other hand is more about pleasing others and not letting down his family, company, or his pack.

Aubrey is running the family business and is alpha of his pack. He lives in fear of being discovered as gay, so he hides who he is. When Aubrey discovers Matt is his mate, he couldn't be more pleased but knows that he will never be able to keep Matt. At first you want to hate Aubrey for the way he is with Matt. He convinces Matt to keep their relationship secret and, even though this makes Matt uncomfortable, he does it for Aubrey. When reading the story you eventually find out Aubrey's reasons for this and you can understand his fears.

Matt is a very loveable character. More than anything he wants to find everlasting love. After watching his parents' marriage slowly fall apart he's hesitant at first with Aubrey but the pull he has toward the other man is just too strong for him to deny. Being in love with Aubrey out weighs any fears he has.

I absolutely loved this story. With a rollercoaster ride of emotions, this book does not disappoint. These two characters complement each other so well you can't help but want them to be together. The love scenes between and Matt and Aubrey are beautifully written. You can tell these two men really love one another. Through all the drama these to suffer through they always realize love is the most important thing.

I would recommend this story and, though it will stand alone, I suggest checking out the all the stories. Ms. Langley has left several unresolved story lines between other characters in this story and I cannot wait for the next installment in this series.

    Great Paranormal M&M

I love the struggling alpha types! It's only a matter of time before they surrender to their hearts desire!

    Good but not great

The book was okay, but it was no where near as good as some of J.L. Langley's other books like Without Reservations.

    Sweet

I like the emotional development of her characters, great passion and great mix of flaws and endearing traits within the same person. She connects with both the capacity for compassion and love as well as depravity and greed. Reminded me of some of Steven King's style.

    Plotless

While the first couple books by J.L. Langley were okay, this one had nothing to offer. The connections, kinship, and relationships of characters from previous books did not help in the slightest. I hope that pre-ordering the next one is not a mistake.

Didn't realize part of series until too late

I made the mistake of reading this one and not realizing it was part of a series until I was well into the book. Now, the whole series is wrecked for me because I know what happens to everyone. Regardless, strong book, good characters

    EXCELLENT WEEKEND READ!!!

Another awesome weekend read by one of my favorite authors. Great addition to the series and surely keeps you turning the pages and not wanting to put the book down until the last word is read. Can't wait for the next addition to this series to be released. :)

    Excellent!!!!

This book was definitely worth the wait. . . just wished that she would write faster. Just kidding. She is one of may favorite authors. Just waiting patiently for Rhys and Sterling's book. Can't wait for it to come out. I loved Matt and Bree but I feel like I have been waiting for Sterling's book 4ever. But for those who haven't read a JL book and you like your books hot, steamy but still full of emotion then give her a try. She is on my auto buy list. This book was better than I expected it too be. Read it in one night . . . just couldn't put it down. It was worth going to work the next day after only three hours of sleep. Keep up the great work JL, can't wait for the next one.

    Yummy!

I love the men in JL Langley's book and this is no exception. This wriiter is one of my fav's. I sooo wish she would write faster LoL... But her books are worth the wait. This book can stand alone, but I would not miss out on the other's. MY Only complaint is with the Nookbook itself. I can not change the font size . No there is nothing wrong with my iPad, Nook or my Mac Pro this has happen only with nook with this and other books , it seems to be hit and miss and has happen a few other times; However, I dislike it and have options due to my IPad.. so I have coosen this to be my last Nookbook. Even though the book was not enjoyable to read on my iPad it still was worth the wait and the author has earned 5stars for her spectacular writing.
