    Soulful, a voice of heart

I saw Jim Nolet at the Knitting factory playing with Cecil Taylor, so I got this CD as an import and I am a big fan of David Murray. Oh what a discovery I have made! Murray and Nolet blend like one in Madoka’s Organic Jam. What an impressive compliment of sound, viola and sax. A beautiful, colorful , bass clarinet take of Murray and Nolet as well-seems as a continuation to the next ascension of Albert Ayler or Ornette. I was taken aback by the sound of Mr. Nolet’s violin and viola, and Ornette’s bass player Brad Jones, blending with the slide guitar of David Tronzo, the viola’s complex percussive approach tastefully framed with virtuosic improvization-an awesome string trio take! Mingus would be proud. I am also a classical buff, and only a virtuoso violinist would be would be recording with the Tokyo String Quartet’s Cellist Sadao Harada. Their duo with the NY Gypsy vocal’s of Aurora Reyes, could only be from NYC. An awesome CD, it is a gem.
