Taut Writing and Breakneck Pacing That Will Keep Readers Up All Night

Katie Singleton, a partner with the Elite Guardians Protection Agency, stumbles upon her next assignment quite by accident. Spotting blue lights at a familiar restaurant, she stops to investigate, only to discover that owner Daniel Matthews has become the target of someone who will go to any lengths to put him out of business.

Daniel might be concerned, but he's not convinced that a bodyguard—and a female one at that—is necessary. A new attack and his niece's urgings are enough to make him reconsider. He and Katie must figure out who's behind the intimidation and threats—before a would-be killer strikes again.

Witty dialogue and a simmering attraction will have readers flying through this tension-laced thriller. Eason exercises complete control of her readers' emotions as they race through the pages to discover the truth.

This new series by Lynette Eason just continues to get better. I liked the first book, Always Watching, but I REALLY liked Without Warning. This time around the action focuses on Katie Singleton who is one of the partners in the Elite Guardians Protection Agency. The case that is the focus of the novel came about by an interesting twist of fate. Katie teaches a self-defense class a couple of times a week at the local gym. One of her students is Riley Matthews. Riley's parents were killed in a tragic accident several years ago and she is now being raised by her beloved uncle Daniel Matthews. Daniel is a successful restaurant owner and pilot. He's also quiet wealthy. The twist of fate happens when Katie sees that there is a crime scene at Daniel's restaurant and she stops to see if Katie and Daniel are okay. What ensues after that pivotal stop makes for some very heart-pumping suspense. Lynette Eason's thrillers are the best sort. She leaves bread crumb trails along the way that are hardly recognizable with the first reading. If you go back and look at the story a second time you will see the brilliance of the hidden yet visible clues along the trail. If you've not yet read a book by Lynette Eason this series is a good place to start. We have read some of her past novels in our book club and had a blast discussing how clever the plots are. And by the way, the romance that develops between Katie and Daniel is nice and spicy as well. I heartily recommend this book to all lovers of romantic suspense. I received a copy of this book to facilitate my review.

Another tense, family based story by Lynette Eason. This is the second in the winning series ELITE GUARDIAN. Katie see's the restaurant, owned by the uncle, of Riley, a friend of hers, streaming with lights. Daniel the owner of 6 restaurants, finds his ex chef had been murdered. Second's later one of his restaurant is burning. Hard for Daniel to watch years of work go up in flames. Was Daniel guilty, even though he offered a college fund for the daughter of the chef, if Maurice got counseling. Why is he a target. How to protect his niece, Riley was there secrets from his tours as a marine. The tension doesn't stop till last page. Great read for all. Looking forward to the third book in January. Given ARC by Net Galley for my honest opinion, of which I have given.

Lynette Eason writes Christian suspense. Does it well, too. This book was action packed, suspenseful and well written. The characters were believable and the plot well thought out. And it's set in my home state of SC! *I was provided a copy of this book by Net Galley in exchange for my honest review.

After meeting Lynette Eason at the International Christian Retail Show and having the opportunity to interview her, I could not wait to read Without Warning. She gave us a little sneak peek into the book and totally had me hooked. I was not disappointed. I received this book free of charge from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. The second book in the Elite Guardians Series continues to follow the lives of the women in the Elite Guardians Protection Agency focusing on this time on Kate Singleton. The story begins with rather restaurateur, Daniel Matthews--Once a Marine-Always a Marine--turned restaurant owner and sole-guardian of his teenage niece when he interrupts a suicide murder in the basement of one of his restaurants while another one goes up in flames. The tension builds when Kate is requested at the insistence of Daniel's niece to protect her uncle from someone willing to go to great lengths to kill the Marine but she struggles with her own fiery demons. Suspense Level: 4 Action Level: 4.5 Romance Level: 4 I enjoyed the cast of characters and found it easy to dive right into the story without feeling like I missed something having not read the first book in the EG Series. The action throughout the book kept me suitably concerned about what was going to happen next and while some of the plot was predictable it wasn't enough to deter me from turning pages late into the night. My biggest complaint about this story is the role of Daniel Matthews. Being the wife of an Army soldier (Hooah!!) and the daughter of a Marine (Oorah!) I know a thing or two about the ego ingrained in the men and women of these services. To me, Daniel Matthews didn't fully embody what I've come to know of Marines. He was quick to agree to protection from a female bodyguard (PLEASE understand that I have nothing against women in the military or their abilities-I'm coming at this from the male's perspective) and during moments of intense action was complacent to allow her to take the "heat". I understand there are strong women in the world and they can be protectors just as much as a man can be ... however, as I said before the Oorah is beat into their heads (sometimes literally) during boot camp. You could be staring at the wimpiest Marine and yet in his head he is the best he's ever known. That's my perception. That's my expectation. Daniel Matthews didn't meet that and it bothered me. I want my hero's to be strong. To at least attempt to protect the women in a gun fight--after all, that's what he's been trained to do--not standby. Daniel's thoughts and actions, in my opinion, let me down. Without Warning offers romantic suspense fans a fantastic story that will draw you in immediately and leave you scrambling with every action filled page to get to the end--which, will only make you want to read the rest of the series. Immediately. *I received this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

Nutshell: Katie Singleton is walking down a new road as part of the Elite Guardian Protection Agency, a group formed and supported by the mayor of the city. On her way home from a job that has just completed, she notices a fire happening in the vicinity of a well-known restaurant and decides to check it out. Upon arriving, she sees it is the restaurant of the uncle of one of her student's in her self-defense class the Guardian's teach. Unbeknownst to everyone standing there, this is just a chain of events that will take place over the next days to try and end the uncle's life. Katie is hired by the niece to protect her uncle, Daniel Matthews, and keep him alive. As she gets deeper into this job, her past, her trust and her heart are all on the line. Pro's: This is the 2nd book in the Women of Justice series, but can easily be read as a stand alone book. It is a very intense, fast paced story that will keep you turning page after page to get to the end. Con's: I found the chain of events on Daniel's life to be a bit over the top and unrealistic as to how many attempts on his life there were in such a short period of time. Very suspenseful, but a bit much. The plot of the attacker also seemed to fizzle away as the story went on. I thought that could have been used much more throughout the book. Recommendation: if you enjoy suspense and mystery, you will enjoy the second book in this series. Revell Publishing sent me this copy to review for them. Opinions expressed are my own.

Without Warning" by author Lynette Eason is part of her series called Elite Guardians. Kate Singleton is part of the Elite Guardians Protection Agency. She finds out that Daniel Matthews, a man who owns a restaurant that she likes, is in trouble. He has some enemies, or one enemy who wants him and his business gone. Daniel does not want a bodyguard but he is finally convinced by his niece that he needs to have help before something happens to him. Will Kate be able to keep him safe? I really like the novels that I have read by this author. I give this book a 5/5. I was given this book by Revell Publishing Company and these are my opinions.

Without Warning, by Lynette Eason, is the 2nd book in the Elite Guardian Series. This book is romantic suspense at its best! I loved this book, even more than the first one of the series. The main female character is Katie Singleton, who we met in the first book. I enjoyed learning her story and how she came to have PTSD and how it’s impacted her life. She is a very strong character and the reader will like her from the beginning. The male lead in the story is Daniel, who has custody of his niece, Riley. Daniel is ex-military and also struggles with PTSD. When Daniel finds a body hanging in his basement and then his restaurant burns down, his niece hires Katie from Elite Guardians Protection Service. The story is fast past, with lots of plot twists and turns. The author, Lynette Eason, does an excellent job of weaving faith in God into her stories and it is this element of faith in her books that keeps me reading everything and anything she writes. She is just that great of an author, and I appreciate that she stays true to her faith in her stories, but never comes across as preachy or judgmental. I highly recommend this book, however, don’t start reading it before bed as you will not be able to put it down and you’ll be reading all night! I can’t wait for the next book from this series. Though this book is the 2nd book in the Elite Guardian Series, it could easily be read as a standalone book. Another winner from an award winning author! I received a copy of this book from Revell Publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Without Warning is a nice addition to Lynette Eason’s Elite Guardians series. This time we follow guardian/bodyguard Katie Singleton. She happens to be driving home one night when she notices policemen at the restaurant of owner Daniel Matthews who is the uncle of one of her self-defense students, Riley. A dead body has been found hanging in the basement of his restaurant and one of Daniel’s other places has gone up in flames all in the same night. Coincidence? Nobody seems to think it is. Because of this, 17 year old Riley decides to hire Katie and her team to protect her uncle so she does not lose him as her parents have already died in a car accident. However, Daniel is not your usual client as he is a former marine and has skills of his own. This was a fast paced ride and the villain was quite wacked out. He/she did not seem to give the characters a moment of peace and they were constantly on their toes trying to stay one step ahead and trying not to get killed. I liked the chemistry between Katie and Daniel and I enjoyed visiting the whole team again. The stark white covers with the smoke around the characters I think are some of the best suspense covers I have seen. I look forward to Maddie’s story next. I was provided a copy for an honest review from Revell Publishing and the opinions are my own.

An incredibly well-crafted romantic suspense novel! This is a stand-alone story. Some of the characters are the same as in book one but the focus is on a different member of the Elite Guardians Agency. I thoroughly enjoyed finding out more about Katie Singleton and her past. It was wonderful to find out what led her to join this wonderful agency of women bodyguards. She has some very painful memories that affect how she deals with different situations and I really liked seeing how she learned to move past them and do the job that needed doing. Daniel Matthews has so much skill and strength of character going for him that he is used to not needing anyone’s help. I found it delightful to find out that he was able to put that all aside and accept help from Katie and her friends just knowing that it would make his niece Riley feel better having them around. I love it when a strong man is willing to do something just to help someone he loves cope in a trying situation. The story is fantastic. There were so many twists and turns to it that I was kept guessing until very late in the book as to who the villain was. That is always going to keep me reading and totally engaged in the book. I received a free copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest opinion. This was a wonderful second book in the Elite Guardians series. Kate Singleton and Daniel Matthews are wonderful characters and work well together. They both learn many things from each other. Bad things keep happening to Daniel and soon he thinks that it may affect his niece. This is when he and his niece hire the Elite Guardians. There are many twists and turns and it keeps you on your toes. I received a copy of this book from Revell for a fair and honest opinion.

This is the second book in the Elite Guardians Series, but can be read as a stand alone novel, as each one wrapped up the main storyline by the end of the book. The Elite Guardians are all strong women who have different abilities and areas of expertise who are hired to protect those who need a little extra help. In this case, a teenager hires the Elite Guardians to protect her Uncle Daniel when he is framed for murder and one of his restaurants is torched, both on the same evening. The clues and the "red herrings" keep you guessing as to who hates Daniel so much that they would try to destroy his business, and even take his life. Katie, and her friends, do everything they can to expose the killer or killers before he (or she?) destroys Daniel, while Katie and Daniel also balance a growing attraction for each other. I enjoyed catching up a little bit with characters from the first book and getting to know Daniel and Riley, his neice. I did some guessing as to the guilty one (or ones?) and was partially right, but was never too sure until the end. I received a free copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for a fair review. I look forward to the third book in this series, hopefully coming out in the spring.

Daniel, ex-marine, owner of several restaurants, and guardian of his niece - whose parents were killed in an accident is seemingly living the sweet life. He lives in a neighborhood of pilots wit an airstrip in his back yard and a plane in his hanger. If he wanted to, he could very well just set back and take it easy, but instead Daniel enjoys being actively involved in his business management. Then the unlikely hits, a body is found in the basement of his restaurant. One that totally casts suspicion his way, until one of his other restaurants burns down. Not coming up with any personal enemies makes it even more difficult to figure out who might be behind the attacks. His niece Riley's self-defense instructor is also part of a team of bodyguards. They quickly become involved as the situation becomes extremely precarious for both Daniel and his niece. How long will it take to figure out who is behind this mess, what do they want, and how many people will be hurt in the process? Lynette will keep you on the edge of your seat as you read through this suspenseful, thrilling mystery. You may think you have it figured out, but I guarantee you a few unexpected twists towards the end that will surprise you and possibly even shock you! This book was the second in the series, but I was able to read it as a stand alone without any problems. I finished in record time, and was extremely disappointed when I did have to put it down. I am eager to read book one, as well as, the next one in the series - coming out Feb 2017. I was blessed with this book courtesy of Revell Publishing in exchange for my honest opinion.

Watch Your Back! Daniel Matthews seems to have it all, the owner of some highly successful restaurants, lots of material wealth, a mom and niece who love him. Everything is going well until the night the body of his former employee is found hanging in his restaurant's basement. Shortly afterward, on that same night, his other restaurant is set on fire. Soon it becomes apparent that Daniel himself is the target of whoever is doing these horrible things. In addition, the target might extend to his niece Riley, too. So begins a deadly game of cat and mouse. Katie Singleton of the Elite Guardians Protection Agency is brought in as a bodyguard for Daniel and Riley. Despite Katie and her crack team, more attacks take place, and the person behind it all remains a mystery. While facing life and death situations together, Katie and Daniel begin to learn a lot about each other. They discover they have a lot in common, and cautiously hope that if they survive, the two of them might spend even more time together. This fast-moving book will grab your attention from the first page, and keep you wondering who is behind it all. Daniel faces a variety of attacks which range from bullets, to bombs, and even a backhoe. Additionally, Daniel's anger at God because of his brother and sister-in-law's deaths add a lot of depth and reality to his character. Riley's strong faith in spite of her parent's deaths, along with maturity and spunkiness, make her very likable. The reader will find themselves hoping Riley will survive all of these attacks unharmed. Katie has skeletons of her own in her closet. Many will find common ground with her as she blames herself for her brother's death. I really enjoyed this intense story. This is book two in the Elite Guardians series, but this story stands on its own. The author does a great job of keeping the reader in suspense as Daniel attempts to find out who is behind all the attacks--before it is too late. I had a hard time putting it down, and give it 5 plus stars. Without Warning is highly recommend to anyone who enjoys fast-paced thrillers written from a Christian viewpoint. The publisher has provided bookreadingtic with a complimentary copy of Without Warning, through Revell Publishing for the purpose of review. I have not been compensated in any other manner. All opinions expressed are my own, and I was not required, or influenced, to give anything but an honest appraisal. Without Warning is the second book in Lynette Eason’s Elite Guardians series, and is a book I’ve been highly anticipating for months! I really enjoyed the first book, Always Watching, but I have to say that Lynette has raised the bar even higher with this book and it will definitely be going on my list of favorite suspense novels for this year! Lynette has definitely made a name for herself in the suspense genre and I always love her books. They keep me up way too late more often than not, and I can’t resist grabbing every spare moment to read, despite knowing I’ll have to put them down eventually and actually be productive. This book kept me guessing from page one and sifting through suspects, trying to guessing “whodunit.” I loved the rapid-fire pace of the story, but also appreciated the slower moments that balanced it out and allowed the relationship to build naturally. I do have to confess her books feel just a bit improbable at times, with how everything works out, but I think that’s part of why I love them: everything eventually works out for the best . . . Well, maybe not for the villain, but I’m not generally not terribly upset about that. Katie Singleton is the heroine of this story and I loved her immediately! I vaguely remember meeting her in the previous book and really liking her, but my faulty memory definitely didn’t do her justice. She is strong and bold, but also struggles with her past and the mistakes that led her to this point. She also fits perfectly with the hero, Daniel Matthews, who has also become a favorite character. He is definitely not the average protection agency client, with his military and investigation background, something that I really enjoyed. The premise of the whole series, of a team of female bodyguards can sound a bit farfetched, especially because it’s flip-flopped from the norm, but Lynette does it so well! Her heroes are still just that: heroes. They may allow the ladies to take the lead, but they never come across as weak or lacking. They are still incredibly strong characters, which is especially true of Daniel. He has a very bold personality, which came right off the pages. He struggles with an anger problem, but it’s something he’s learned to control. He also battles PTSD and we get a few glimpses of that, which makes him come to life even more. I loved getting to know him and seeing someone take care of Katie for a change. He is especially sweet with his niece, Riley, another character that I really loved meeting. I’m kind of hoping she has a book of her own in the future - I personally would adore that (hint, hint). I also really appreciate how the author weaves faith and trust in God throughout the story, without it coming across as preachy or overtaking the main storyline. It’s subtly woven throughout as an overarching theme and I enjoyed the bits of wisdom shared throughout the story, a few of which I’ve saved for future reference. The ending was also superbly done and I regret reading the excerpt of the next book that was at the end because I really want to read that one now, but I’m forced to wait! I knew there was a reason some readers wait for the entire series to release . . . I just don’t have that kind of self control. In case it wasn’t obvious from my overuse of certain words, I HIGHLY recommend this book! Many thanks to Revell for my copy of this book!I have given my honest review and have not been compensated for it in any way. All opinions are expressed are my own.

Another great read by Lynette Eason! I loved the characters so much in this story, especially Riley! The plot was very intriguing and kept me guessing throughout. I enjoy this series (Elite Guardians) very much! The comradery between the the four partners is great! There is such trust and friendship between them. I enjoy their friendship as much as the love stories! Riley is a great character who has been through so much and still holds true to her faith. She is wise beyond her years and helps those around her to find peace with God. I would love to read a series with her as the main character! (Hint, Hint) I'm very excited to read the next installment in this exciting series.

The moment I picked up this book I knew I was in for a treat. I also knew that it was going to incredibly hard to put down. I was not disappointed. Lynette Eason is absolutely one of my favorite authors. She made me laugh, cry, and hold my breath. Without Warning is the second book in the Elite Guardians Series. You don't have to read book one in order to love this book. That being said, you are missing out in a great story and getting to know these amazing ladies more. This book follows Katie Singleton who is one of the team members in the Elite Guardians. Katie is a complicated woman. She has gone through a lot in her life and being a part of the Elite Guardians has given her a purpose. When she comes across a crime scene at a restaurant she is familiar with her curiously gets the best of her. The owner of the restaurant Daniel Matthews has angered someone, and they aren't playing nice. Katie feels drawn to help Daniel, even if he doesn't feel he needs it. He has always been a man who can take care of himself, and doesn't see why he needs a bodyguard. But when his niece becomes worried and asks him to hire the Guardians, he can't say no to her. Weird stuff keeps happening, and it doesn't seem like there is an end in sight. Can they figure out who's after them before it's too late? I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys romantic suspense. Eason kept me on my toes and had me turning pages when I should have been in bed. I loved getting to know the characters and seeing their relationships grow. Their faith was woven throughout the story and I enjoyed seeing how each of them viewed God. I can't wait for the next book in the series to come out! I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion. All opinions expressed are my own, and not influenced in any way.

Without Warning is an action-packed suspense! When Katie Singleton stumbles into an assignment, she finds herself protecting local restaurant owner Daniel Matthews. As tensions build and threats escalate, Katie and Daniel must work together to stay safe and uncover the identity of this relentless attacker. Enjoying the drama, intrigue, and romance of their story, I eagerly turned the pages to find out what would happen next. Now, I’m already anticipating Quinn and Maddy’s story in the next exciting adventure with the Elite Guardians Protection Agency! While this is the second book in the Elite Guardians series, Without Warning easily reads as a stand-alone story. I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an unbiased review. All thoughts expressed are my own.

Book two of the Elite Guardians series far outshines book one. Without Warning is Lynette Eason at her best. She has created a believable story with endearing characters. There are several suspects with motivations to commit the crime, and some come under suspicion again even after having been found unlikely candidates. Eason leads you to the solution of the mystery, but then provides a surprising twist that the reader won’t have seen coming. Katie Singleton, a partner with the Elite Guardians Protection agency, is a strong, self-confident woman. Daniel Matthews, restaurateur and client of the agency, is a former Marine who appreciates those qualities in a woman. Being a Marine, Matthews is more than capable of taking care of himself, but his niece insists he hires the Elite Guardians. After all she has already lost her mom and dad; she cannot allow anything to happen to her uncle. No one is quite sure why Daniel Matthews is being targeted by a killer and arsonist, and no one is sure when and how that person will strike again. Singleton and Matthews have the skills necessary to deal with the situation, but it is their vulnerabilities that create a bond between them. While Eason refers back to characters and events from book one in this series, Always Watching, it is not necessary to have read the first book in order to understand and enjoy the second. Each book in the series has as its main character one of the partners of the Elite Guardians. It would appear that the author is designing them to be read in sequence or as a stand-alone book. Something I always appreciate. I thank Revell Publishing and the Christian Blog Alliance for providing Without Warning for my honest opinion. I received no monetary compensation for providing this review.
