Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Kathie M. Josephs
This is book two in the "Wizards of Mickey" series; however, the author includes a picture and mini summary of the first book so it is possible to still enjoy this book without reading the first one. Mickey Mouse is the main character in the story and is a Wizard, and his faithful team has Donald and Goofy who are both part of his Wizard's team. As the story begins Team Diamond Moon has challenged the Wizards of Mickey for the Stone Diamagic. It is learned that the reason Minnie has challenged them is because her entire kingdom has been turned to stone and she needs the Diaimagic to reverse the spell. What an adventure...there is a cloak of invisibility, a bridge that breaks and drops them into a cave of large bugs, dragons, robot octopi, a giant warlock monster robot, and in chapter eight they learn of a great crown that grants power for any magic. In order to get the magic, they have to assemble all of the diamagics at the stake in the great sorcery tournament. Will the team be able to succeed? Can you, the reader, answer the questions provided at the end of the book? Perfect book for both boys and girls who love to figure things out and then see if they are correct. Reviewer: Kathie M. Gr 3–6—Mickey, Donald, Goofy, and a cast of familiar supporting characters go on a swords-and-sorcery quest. The art is traditional, lively, and colorful, and the story is snappy, making it appealing to young readers. Unfortunately, the personalities of the original characters don't come through: Mickey is uninteresting, Donald is a shadow of his usual grumpy self, and, apart from the occasional "Hyuk," Goofy isn't goofy at all. The plot concerns Mickey and his pals competing in a series of contests to win magic gems. Still, kids ready to gobble up anything and everything Mickey will enjoy this fast-paced title and the competition-based story line will appeal to fans of Pokémon and the like.—Douglas P. Davey, Halton Hills Public Library, Ontario, Canada
