Princess Arenelle, just turned eleven, the age of Magic, has overcome so much in her quest to be the next Imperial Wizard. Now, as the current Wizard grows weaker and the evil Lord Graieconn grows stronger, she must summon all her reserves of intelligence and courage to outwit the vile creatures and twisted Folk who do the bidding of the Dark Lord. They rise up now, legions of them, from the caverns of Darkearth. Driving the forces of Eldearth before them, they seek to capture and extinguish the Scepter of Light, which protects Eldearth from the supreme evil — Graieconn himself. Nell cannot stop them alone.
Only by teaming with her twin brother, Owen, can Nell hope to defend the Scepter. But Owen is her archcompetitor for the title of Imperial Wizard! Can Nell and Owen put aside their differences and find a way to work together as the ultimate battle looms? Even then, can Eldearth be saved?

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
In this enchanting novel, the third in "The Keepers" series, a wizard named Nell and her brother Owen fight to take the place of the Imperial Wizard, who has control over Eldearth. Someone must replace him before he dies, or the land will be destroyed by the evil Lord Graieconn. Nell and her brother soon realize that they must team up to defend the scepter and save Eldearth. The characters constantly conflict with each other and always battle over differences. Koller does a good job of portraying the fantasy world in this book. The descriptions of the land and people are so detailed that the reader will feel like part of the story. Fantasy fans will notice many similarities between Koller's novels and The Lord of the Rings and they will enjoy reading these stories, because they are full of fantasy and adventure. 2004, Aladdin Paperbacks, Ages 9 to 12.

    Well written

This series is somewhat light reading. The plot is whimsical, the main character, Nell, is the standard headstrong princess and a bit of a cliche. However, it does go into how unjust the world of eldearth has become, and girls around ten to thirteen years old should be able to relate to Nell. An all-around well written book.
