Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Andy Zadinski is a boy with a serious problem. No one believes him when he receives a telephone call from a man confessing to the murder of a student at the local college. Andy does the correct thing by calling the police and telling his father. At first, Andy's father and the police believe him, and do what they can, but eventually, they are convinced that Andy is making too much of what they presume is a crank call. Andy's concern grows when he finds out that the victim is a real person. He believes that the murderer, known only as Zeke, will try and kill his intended victim. Andy attempts to find out who Zeke is and puts his own life at risk by finding out all he can about Zeke and the victim. The story concludes in a rather harrowing way, but on the whole is satisfying. This teenage thriller is a fascinating and satisfying read. A much more poignant aspect of the story is the description of Andy's relationship with his father and their effort to overcome grief over the death of Andy's mother a year earlier. This book could be more satisfying read if this minor plot had been developed in more detail. 2000 (orig. 1993), Aladdin Paperbacks,
