Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Donna Freedman
Seth Jacobson, son of a Minnesota game warden, is intrigued by the re-establishment of wolves in the area. Yet his best friend echoes a common sentiment among area farmers: wolves kill livestock. Seth is torn between his own knowledge of wolf behavior and his desire to remain friends with Matt. But when his pal commits an act of senseless violence, Seth must choose between what's right and what's easy. This intriguing short novel lopes along as gracefully as a wolf on hard-packed snow, and should interest city and country kids equally-particularly home-schooled children, since Seth studies at home.
School Library Journal
Gr 5-8Seth Jacobson's father is a game warden in northern Minnesota, where some local farmers and hunters hate the few wolves that still roam free. Although frightened by them, Seth admires the animals, and his best friend, Matt, taunts him with the epithet "wolf lover." Their conflict comes to a head when Matt shoots a wolf and Seth disgustedly deserts his friend in the woods, endangering his life. In the aftermath of Matt's rescue, both boys start to sort out their thinking. A sequel to Casanova's Moose Tracks (Hyperion, 1995), this novel carries the message that demonization of wolves is wrong. It also conveys the general notion that either love or hate can cloud judgment. The friendship between Seth and Matt is not completely convincing, but Seth is a well-realized character. Some readers will expect more action than this slow-paced, message-heavy novel of reflection offers.Claudia Morrow, Berkeley Public Library, CA

The book I read was called 'Wolf Shadows'. It was about a family in Minnesota. Their house is in front of woods. They have livestock on their farm. The plot of the story is how Seth has to stay at his friend Matt's house. The second day he is there, they decide to go hunting for the day. When they go hunting Matt kills a wolf becease a wolf killed one of his cows. I would tell you more but I dont want to spoil the book. I recommend this book for people who cliffhangers and people who enjoy reading books about animals.
