WOLVES is a terrific piece of storytelling. In his first two books, Cary Griffith proved himself to be a talented reporter, researcher and writer able to tell compelling true life adventure stories. In WOLVES, Mr. Griffith has taken the same kind of elements and turned them into a great mystery/thriller. Sam Rivers, a U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service biologist and special agent, learns of a report of his abusive father’s death. Having left home 20 years ago, he decides to return to his northern Minnesota hometown to see the house his mother had lived in until her death two years prior. With his return, he will face his own memories, square off against old foes in the form of his father’s friends, and gain new allies as he agrees to help with an investigation into a wolf depredation incident. And the story’s backdrop, the bitterness of a northern Minnesota winter, is a key character on its own. Mr. Griffith has given us a story that is truly complex and chilling. It is most definitely a real page-turner and well worth the read. And we can hope for the chance to meet up with Sam Rivers again...

I loved this book,. It has been years since I couldn't wait to get back to a book to find out what was going to happen next. When you live in Minnesota, you sometimes run out of words to describe the winter, Mr. Griffith's descriptions made me reach for an afgan on an August afternoon! Please keep writing, I want to know what Sam Rivers will do next.
