Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Amy McMillan
Wolves often get a bad rap for being fierce and blood thirsty. This book does not necessarily argue those facts but rather helps the reader to understand how and why wolves are the way they are and why that is not always a bad thing. The table of contents delineates within each two-page spread the specific subjects highlighted by large, full-color photos, short paragraphs of important information, and off-set text boxes sharing complementary fun facts and tidbits. Specific vocabulary words are bolded in the text and defined in the glossary in the back of the book. Topics covered include conservation efforts, habitats, physical characteristics, hunting tactics, and variations in species. There is even some information about wolves in stories and legends. Some basic facts are missing so this book will not serve as a complete resource but it is a great supplement for those wanting to focus primarily on the predatory nature of the animals. In addition to the glossary, the back matter contains an index and references to on-line information. Part of the "Amazing Animal Hunters" series, this installment is sure to appeal to animal lovers and boys in particular. Reviewer: Amy McMillan
