Wilkin, a speaker and women’s Bible study teacher, challenges women to move away from viewing the Bible as a way to see themselves and instead to see scripture as a way to see God. She shares from her own early mistakes in Bible study, but also with the eye of a longtime teacher observing her students. She argues that many women sign up for a spiritual “roller-coaster ride,” letting their hearts guide their study of the Bible, rather than seeking to understand scripture through diligent and informed study. She encourages women to understand the connection of each part of scripture back to the larger story of what God is doing, keeping in mind how the original audience would have heard the message. Wilkin’s challenges to the status quo, grounded in years of observation, ring with gentle wisdom and guide readers in how to study the Bible with greater depth. (Aug.)

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review from the publisher.
I want to preface this by saying that I've never done any Bible study in my life and I'm working right now thorough a yearly daily reading of the Bible this year. Reading through this book, the author mentions methods of reading and studying the Bible that apparently people do that are the "wrong way", and then she gives methods to do it the "correct way".
Since I've never done either, I suppose its easier to teach me her correct way and move on. I found her methods to be logical and thoughtful. I can understand how re-reading a passage multiple times would lend to remembering it, not necessarily memorizing it verse for verse. The author leads you in ways of understanding the Bible in ways that work for you, not necessarily parroting others' viewpoints. I've always been a fan of independent thinking.
The only question I have for the author would be, if I've never done this before, how would I know the good commentators from the bad commentators?

This book is one of the best I have ever read for practical Bibl

This book is one of the best I have ever read for practical Bible Study. Jen mentions multiple ways that we often study the Bible wrong and I am guilty of every single one. This book is not only convicting, but it so helpful to teach women how to better approach the Word and make these habits life long. I am a true fan and recommend this book to any woman wanting to have a deeper relationship with the Lord and a better love and appreciation for His Word!

Women of the word is a study that challenges women to dig deeper

Women of the word is a study that challenges women to dig deeper into the Bible and encourages them to equip, engage, train, and transform their minds as they renew their passion for God’s word. Author Jen Wilkin addresses five ways to study with additional insights and steps to take in your personal study. Study topics like:

    Study with Purpose,
    Study with Perspective
    Study with Patience
    Study with Process
    Study with Prayer
enable women to take a different approach to reading. As I read this book I realized I was learning and applying without even thinking of it! When people hear the word hermeneutics they often tend to run away and hide in the corner with their hands over their ears, eye s squeezed shut. However, this book is exactly a hermeneutical study.

The general focus of this book is bible literacy and how many Christians, especially women, are biblicaly illiterate. I challenge any woman wanting to deeper her faith, grow her understanding, and seek out her Savior even more to read this book. You will not be disappointed.

I read this book as an e-book, but it is also available as a paperback.
