Read an Excerpt

Each of us has a special rhythm to which we resonate, and this individual rhythm moves us throughout life. When we physically and mentally dance, we are freeing ourselves from rigidity in our thinking and actions, and I think this permits us to be explorers of life. By living lives of so many multiple experiences, we have learned that if our minds are rigid in our personal beliefs, we may have created barricades that prevent new experiences from adding color and meaning to our lives.

What does it matter if we miss a step, stumble, or lose track of the beat? Our inherent rhythm is constantly with us to lead us back into our dance of life. When we honor not only our dance but the dances of others, we honor the Creator of all of life, the master choreographer. Wouldn't it be boring if we all danced the same dance? Diversification adds zest and flavor and is needed individually and collectively.

Dancing mentally and physically allows us to see ourselves as eternally young, and this is psychologically healthy. Many of us believe that our thoughts help us create a reality that exemplifies what we are picturing. It is important to question ourselves as to whether we are afraid to change the status quo and become what we would like to be, by viewing what we picture. Do we dare? Only you and I can answer this for ourselves.

With the expression of dance, we are able to see ourselves aging with grace and a feeling of gratitude for the present moment, and for all of the moments of the past - even those we wish we might erase from memory. We may see ourselves not as trapped in these memories, but learning what we needed to learn from them and moving on gracefully within our rhythm of life into whatever experiences are now to surface. I think a sense of joy comes to us as we anticipate the tomorrows that will come. Our dance of life creates a movement that never ends.
