5 Stars! from Doody
Marianne H. Hutti
This new book, written from a feminine perspective, contains an overview of topics and issues that influence women's health. It is a valuable and unique reference. Its purpose is to inform nurses about the complex nature of women's health. It addresses common health problems of women and examines the effect of context and gender on women's health and use of healthcare services. This book is intended to be used by nurses, graduate and undergraduate nursing students, clinical specialists, and nurse practitioners who care for women. It is a large, softbound book that is adequately illustrated and contains several excellent tables and diagrams. The table of contents and index are adequate and easy to use. The book contains several chapters/topics not usually found in women's health books, including women as healthcare providers, women and healthcare, feminist frameworks for practice as well as growth and development, lesbian health care, nutrition, exercise, mental health, women in the work place, unwanted pregnancy, sexuality, drug abuse, and philosophical perspectives on reproductive technology. This book is an excellent resource for registered and advanced practice nurses and students who care for women. It is well worth purchasing and contains much practical information that can be used in the diagnosis and treatment of health problems. In addition, the theoretical frameworks, feminist perspective, and holistic approach to examining women's health and healthcare is unique and provides important connections between women's lives and their health concerns.
