VOYA
Specific exercises are discussed in great detail, all for the enhancement of the most essential soccer skills—running and cutting. According to the zealous author, once these two motions are perfected, better game play virtually is guaranteed. Chapter after chapter offers minute movements toward the goal of most effective running and cutting. For example, in the "Specialized Explosive Exercises" chapter, Yessis defines the correct takeoff and landing postures and continues with approximately eighteen different drills to maximize leaps, cuts, and any directional changes during play. Recommended exercises include both on-the-field practice and strength/weight training. The photos of female players that accompany the text will enhance understanding of the specified motions. Also included are chapters on the most common mistakes in soccer conditioning, nutrition for players, and women's issues regarding athleticism. Serious soccer players and coaches—male or female—will get further insight into exercises they already practice, but they might be put off by the extreme technicality of the language. The photos included in the galley are dark and blurry. If the quality of the figures is not improved for publication, the book's use will be greatly diminished. Photos.
