This book, the first written by the Hall of Famer Christy Mathewson, is notable for the game action, inside baseball kn owledge and humor that he blends superbly. However, the writing style is pretty simple, but since this book was targeted for youths, I can't really criticize Mathewson for that. I found it amusing how the characters in this story were modeled after real stars of Mathewson's time - Ty Robb, Hugh Jenkins, Honus Hagner, Johnny Everson and others. Since this book was written over 100 years ago, there is some outdated language and prejudices in this book, which is quite irritating at times. Even so, if you are a baseball fan, you should read this book, even if it is just to say you read a book by the great Christy Mathewson. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
