Overview

This Exclusive Collector's Edition of the #1 New York Times Bestseller includes more than 40 additional pages of bonus material: a letter from the author; a conversation with the author; letters, e-mails, and cards from readers; discussion questions and additional resources; and much more!

I won't describe what I look like. Whatever you're thinking, it's probably worse.

August Pullman was born with a facial deformity that, up until now, has prevented him from going to a mainstream school. Starting 5th grade at Beecher Prep, he wants nothing more than to be treated as an ordinary kid—but his new classmates can't get past Auggie's extraordinary face. WONDER, now a #1 New York Times bestseller and included on the Texas Bluebonnet Award master list, begins from Auggie's point of view, but soon switches to include his classmates, his sister, her boyfriend, and others. These perspectives converge in a portrait of one community's struggle with empathy, compassion, and acceptance.

"Wonder is the best kids' book of the year," said Emily Bazelon, senior editor at Slate.com and author of Sticks and Stones: Defeating the Culture of Bullying and Rediscovering the Power of Character and Empathy. In a world where bullying among young people is an epidemic, this is a refreshing new narrative full of heart and hope. R.J. Palacio has called her debut novel "a meditation on kindness" —indeed, every reader will come away with a greater appreciation for the simple courage of friendship. Auggie is a hero to root for, a diamond in the rough who proves that you can't blend in when you were born to stand out.

Wonder is about a boy with lots of struggles and this book gives an inside as to how August and the rest of the characters look at things from their point of view. This book is about a boy with a birth defect, who has Treacher - Collins Syndrome and all his struggles in life and school. Each chapter has a different point of view which I really liked, because I didn't have to worry what all the other characters are thinking or doing. My favorite part is when Auggie gets his standing ovation, because nobody's judging him, and they're happy for him. I recommend this book for people with Treacher - Collins Syndrome or anyone that gets bullied, because they can connect with August Pullman.

August isn't an ordinary kid. He was born with a deformality. He's been homeschool all his life, but now his parents want him to go to regular school. My favorite part is when August was going on a trip and his mom was doing everything for him. And August was saying "Stop treating me like a baby!" Anyway I recommend this book to anyone who likes a happy ending! -Aylin A.

Wonder by R.J Palacio is an enticing work of fiction appropriate for all ages groups. Wonder tells the story of a boy, August Pullman, suffering from Treacher Collins Syndrome as he goes through the journey that is his first year in public school. While Wonder had much success in capturing the interest of the audience and plot, it suffered in areas regarding character personality and development. Except for Jack and Via, very few characters other than August had any sort of character development. The characters also always seemed to have August on there mind, and hardly any side plots were noticeable that didn't revolve around August and barely any characters had personal problems. All of the characters seemed to fill a stereotypical role to help August in his journey, such as Via, the supportive older sister, or Summer, the gold hearted sweetheart. The novel was successful in some areas, however. Such as plot, which time after time succeeds in engaging the audience. This book also succeeds in showing how the reality is for children who are different, and how they have to deal with bullying and other struggles children do not tend to face. Wonder I recommend to any one who is looking for a hard look at reality for children with Treacher Collins Syndrome.-Brittany G.

It's true that acceptance of ourselves is the biggest hurdle, especially physical differences in this world where, unfortunately, outward image overrides the true heart and soul of a person.  This story, written for all age groups, is heartwrenchingly poignant and relevant.  A book that must be read and will not quickly be forgotten.

Wonder (by R.J Palacio) is a lovely wonderful book about a young boy named August. August has a disease called Treacher Collins Syndrome(TCS).He starts school for the first time, but he faces many obstacles through his journey in school. All he wants is to be treated like an ordinary kid like the rest of the kids. Students from his class and all the school would give him weird looks and bully him for the way he looks. Each chapter has different points of view of the way the think of him. This book has lots of love from his family and few friends. My favorite part is that August started not to care of what they say and what they tell him.I recomend this book if you has times when you feel you dont fit in. It gives advantage to your life and has lots of love.- Sofi E.<3

Once in awhile you read a book in which the character remains important deep within your thoughts and heart. A character so moving, so special, and so inspiring... so alive. Wonder is a book in which the main character has made the decision to enter Middle School after being home schooled. It is a decision that will leave him vulnerable and exposed. A courageous step beyond the safety of his family. Meet Auggie (August Pullman), who was born with a facial deformity, intelligence, and courage. All of his life he has endured the devastating looks, reactions, and fearfulness of strangers. Now is the time for him to become a student among many who are finding their way as middle school students. Given the "all encompassing" emotions and hormonal changes, middle school can be a roller coaster of fear, bullying, anger, and uncertainty. Why would Auggie want to begin public school at such a time is beyond reasoning for most of us. Yet, Auggie is blessed beyond measure with courage and a determination to live without "superficial" boundaries. "I know I'm not an ordinary ten-year-old kid. I mean, sure, I do ordinary things.... But I know ordinary kids don't make other kids run away screaming in playgrounds." Mr. Tushman of Beecher Prep school has prearranged a meeting with Auggie and his mother before the first day of school. Like any ordinary "new" student, Auggie will meet some of the staff and tour the school. It is with great foresight, that Auggie's tour is lead by a few "homeroom" students: Jack is the first student that will extend friendship in the halls and classrooms. Yet, at some point he will need to decide if he wants to fit in with his old friends or stay friends with Auggie. Jullian is rude and obnoxious (you know that type that acts one way with adults and another with students). The type that is loud, arrogant, and will not let Auggie escape being bullied. When push comes to shove, Auggie will demonstrate true character strength. The question will be if Jullian will learn acceptance of Auggie as an "ordinary" kid... and a friend? Charlotte is an "artsy" girl. She enjoys all aspects of school, including science. She doesn't waiver in her support for Auggie, unless maybe it's in the lunch room. Will Charlotte be strong enough to overcome peer pressure? Mr. Browne is Auggie's English teacher. He values his students and begins school with learning about precepts (any important thought, motto, or saying that guides you when making really important decisions). His students will write-to-learn a new precept every month: "When given the choice between being right or being kind, choose kind." Dr. Wayne W. Dyer Summer is the first student who braves the whispers in the lunch room and chooses to sit at the table with Auggie. It might seem a small gesture to many... but not only will it prove to be a courageous step towards friendship... it will also be an experience of a life time for both of them. Whether it is Auggie's first birthday party, the first Halloween school event, the first school trip (outdoor school away from home), or the first meeting with his sister's high school friends... Auggie is on a life-changing quest... to be just another "ordinary kid!" The depth of characterization will leave a lasting "thumb-print" upon every reader's heart. There is so much that Auggie offers, care enough to experience the "Wonder," MrsK http://mrskbookstogo.blogspot.com/

This book was recommended to me by a friend. I was immediately drawn in by August's honesty. When the perspective switched, I thought the story would lose its focus, but each character added to August's story. After reading each section, I had a more complete picture of August's world and I became more attached to the little boy. Books rarely make me cry, but this one did. Now it's on my figurative shelf of books everyone needs to read because the world would be a better place if they did.

I love that the book is told from agguie's, and via's and summer's and that other boy's point of view, it really shows you how the other characters really feel! The via chapter is really emotional and made me sympathize with her tremendously

Wonder by R.J Palacio. In the first few days of school it was harsh.Being in a state of confusion feels like you are traapped ina box. August is the main character, and has a medical condition called TCS (Treacher Collins Syndrome). This does not stop him from being the top in his class. Tygent Orange has effected one of my family members. He no longer has use of his legs but that just makes him stronger. I recommend this book to people who have faced issues with not fitting in. It is a heart-warming story and will bring a tear to your eye.

Wonder by R.J Palacio is taken place in school. The main character is Auggie, he was born with TCS and his mom is making him go to school. Most of the people that look at him judge before they meet and get to know him. Some people in the world are born with TCS and deal with the same problems the Auggie goes through. I recommend this book because it teaches a very important lesson in life

August (Auggie) was born with Trecher Collins. He struggles but more with the decision of going to regular school or being home schooled. After he his parents convinced him to finally go to school hes made fun of and even bullied by Julian, and some part by Jack. My favorite part of the book is when Jack punches Julian because he was talking dirty about Agguie. I recomend this book to people who like sad stories because this book is so sad it will probably make you cry! Devany T.
