"The great author stands as it were in the background. The prophetess is forgotten for the voices that speak through her. It is as though the book had sprung direct from the soul of the Swedish nation."
-- Stockholm's Dagblad ". . . a classic. . . . A masterwork."
-- Sydsvenska Dagbladet ". . . the great story-teller, the greatest, perhaps, in Scandinavian literature since the days of Hans Christian Andersen. . . . The Adventures of Nils will always be precious. . . ."
-- Gefle Posten
Selfish and lazy, fourteen-year-old Nils learns kindness and wisdom after he is bewitched into an elf-sized boy and carried off by a barnyard goose to join the migration of wild geese across Sweden to Lapland.

I read this book when I was a child, about 65-70 years ago, in German translation and loved it a lot. I now bought it for my younger granddaughter (8), an avid reader, at the occasion of the holidays. I have not yet received feedback from her, but I am convinced it will be a very valuable experience for her.
