Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
This interesting biography explores the political and personal life of Woodrow Wilson. The book describes Wilson's childhood difficulty with dyslexia, his eventual success in the academic world, his tenure at Princeton where he became the first layman to be made president of the university, his governorship of New Jersey, and, finally, his years in the White House. Wilson's interest in reform is highlighted throughout his private and public service. From tariffs to working conditions to anti-trust, Wilson worked toward reform in many areas of economic and social policy. However, his shortcomings, regarding race relations for example, are also detailed. Of course, the paramount event to take place during Wilson's presidency-the Great War-is discussed in detail. Wilson's views towards the United States' participation in the war, its eventual involvement, and the peace process following the war's end are chronicled. This well-organized and informative book, which includes many online and print resources, is a good research tool for readers interested in Wilson's presidency. 2003, Enslow Publishers, Ages 9 to 13.
