Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
Baker, editor of the renowned Woodturning magazine, creates 50 diversely shaped projects within five popular types: boxes, bowls, platters, hollow forms, and natural-edge work. Some works are austere and let the figured wood speak for itself, while others are very ornate. For each project, Baker includes detailed information about materials and tools, plus colorful photos and measured drawings. It is assumed that readers possess a certain amount of skill, but profusely illustrated, step-by-step instructions are provided for the first project of each section. Readers are offered alternative designs and numerous useful hints and tips. An introductory section covers safety, sources of ideas for shapes, equipment, finishing, and woods. This is that rare book that will challenge the beginner while still holding the interest of the experienced turner. Recommended for all woodworking collections.
