Woody's Roundup: A Rootin' Tootin' Collection of Woody's Favorite Songs

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Moira McCormick
One of the fortunate side effects of the success of Disney's blockbuster Toy Story 2 was that it introduced veteran cowboy band Riders in the Sky to a whole new audience of kids -- and parents. Regarded by many as today's premier purveyors of classic western music, Riders in the Sky provided the irresistible vintage "theme song" to the fictitious '50s kids' TV show Woody's Roundup. It apparently generated enough interest that Disney commissioned the group to knock out a whole album of Toy Story 2-inspired tunes. Lead up by "Woody's Roundup" the album is highlighted by "Jessie the Yodeling Cowgirl" the guest female vocalist can yodel-ay-hee-hoo with the best of 'em, ...

Lead up by "Woody's Roundup" the album is highlighted by "Jessie the Yodeling Cowgirl" the guest female vocalist can yodel-ay-hee-hoo with the best of 'em, "The Ballad of Bullseye," and "My Favorite Toy," which gives a nod to just about every object in the Toy Story playroom. Also featured are simpatico pop and folkloric tunes such as the Beatles' "Act Naturally," "Home on the Range," and Randy Newman's "You've Got a Friend in Me," which appears in both vocal and instrumental versions. One of the more charming kids' releases to come along lately, Woody's Roundup is effortlessly entertaining.
All Music Guide - Heather Phares
Inspired by Toy Story 2, Woody's Roundup features songs about everyone's favorite toy cowboy, as well as some country classics, as performed by Riders in the Sky. The "Woody's Roundup" theme, "Jessie, the Yodelin' Cowgirl," and "The Ballad of Bullseye" are among the best Woody-themed tracks, and the Riders' renditions of "Act Naturally," "Home on the Range," and "You've Got a Friend in Me" are just as charming as their children's album Harmony Ranch. Like Toy Story 2 itself, Woody's Roundup is a creative, entertaining album for Toy Story fans of all ages.
