Overview

Animal behaviorist Grace Wilde keeps her ability to psychically communicate with furry and feathered critters under wraps. But when a Doberman turns out to be the only witness to a crime, Grace will have to let the cat out of the bag in order to catch a killer.

Grace Wilde’s job is anything but normal. When she’s not helping out at the zoo by comforting agitated lemurs, she’s listening to the woes of annoyed house pets. Grace’s life gets even more complicated, though, when the cops summon her to a crime scene to help deal with the murder victim’s terrified Doberman.

The pooch turns out to be the only one who saw what happened the night of the shooting—and only Grace can get the information out of him. The problem is, how will Grace tell the distractingly gorgeous Sergeant Kai Duncan that it’s the dog who’s giving her the intel without spilling her big secret or sounding crazy? Left on her own, Grace will have to follow the pup’s lead to track down the killer. But she’ll have to be careful—or curiosity may end up killing the cat whisperer.

Meet the Author

Spending the first years of her life on a Costa Rican coffee farm blessed Laura Morrigan with a fertile imagination and a love for all things wild. Later she became a volunteer at a local zoo, helping out with everything from “waste management” to teaching an elephant how to paint. Drawing from her years of experience with both wild and domestic animals and her passion for detective novels, Laura created the Call of the Wilde series. She lives in Florida with her husband and far too many cats, loves the Blue Angels, wearing flip flops in November, and thunderstorms.

Loved the combination of mystery and quirky humor in this great story. Plenty of the fun characters - human and animal - you'd expect in a cozy with an extra dollop of suspense and fast-paced action thrown in. Laura Morrigan obviously understands and loves animals and it shows in her writing. Vivid and original descriptions. Look forward to future books by this writer.

I love this book. I had so much fun reading it, loved the concept of the way Grace communicates with animals. If your an animal lover, who likes a good mystery, with some quirky humor (both animal and human) in a well-written format, then this book is for you. Laura Morrigan, seems to really love and appreciate animals, and it comes across in her writing. I can't wait for the next book in the series.

Enjoyed the animal psychic lead character and the interaction with animals. She was not only likable, but also was written to be smart and vulnerably human. I am looking forward to reading more mysteries in this series.

I love animals and would LOVE to know what they're thinking, so I figured I'd give this book a try.  I was pleasantly surprised to discover I liked it even more than I expected. Grace Wilde has a gift -- she can communicate with animals telepathically. From a naughty lemur at the zoo to a skeptical cop's cat, Grace gets messages from the critters. She's called to calm a Doberman after the murder of his owner.  It's not long before she realizes that Jax witnessed the murder, but he's so distraught over the loss of his owner that the information is coming in bits and pieces.  Grace takes Jax home with her until it's decided where he'll live, while she hopes to get more info over time. After a disastrous relationship, Grace keeps her abilities to herself except for her sister and dear friend, so she walks a fine line between trying to help the police and keeping her gift under wraps.  It doesn't help that a certain cop is easy on the eyes and Grace finds herself drawn to him although it's pretty clear he's a skeptic. As I said in the beginning, I enjoyed this book and have to say I look forward to future books!

Accept the premise, that she can communicate on the level of the animals, and this is the most enjoyable mystery ever! Very hard to wait for the second in the series --- now that I have it, I have to reread the first one to enjoy it again!

A clever take on the cozy mystery with amusing characterizations. The conclusion was a bit more drawn out than necessary but the journey was fun. I am looking forward to the next in the series.

Woof At The Door is the first book in the A Call Of The Wilde Mystery series. Grace Wilde is an Animal Behaviorist and communicator. Quite often she is called to the local zoo to help calm one of the wild animal. she is trying to calm a young lemur when she gets a call from the police, needing her help to secure Jax, a Doberman, so that the police can investigate the murder of his master. Kai Duncan the lead investigator, can't believe how Grace was able to get Jax under control. Working from a ruined relationship, Grace doesn't want to go too deeply into her methods. She's afraid that everyone will think she is some kind of weirdo if she shares her talent. But at the same time, information Jax has communicated to her, and she in turn has passed on to Duncan makes it appear that she is somehow involved with the murder. The monkey is on her back, so to speak, to acknowledge just where her communication skills lay. The characters are all interesting and believable, adding to an interesting story. It will be interesting to see where the friendship of Grace and Kai goes.
