I read this book years ago when I was in high school. My old book is nowhere to be found, so I'm getting a new one. It's a must-read and a good book to have around.

The best thing about this book, in my opinion, is how interactive it is. I constantly feel like the author is having a really nice conversation with me while I'm reading through the book. It teaches very many excellent words and will give you a much broader yet more profound perspective on everything in daily life.

This book is a very effective vocabulary builder. This book teaches the etymology of words and based on the root (mainly from Greek and Latin) of a word various other related words are taught. With this style of learning a word - by going to the root of it, there in no much need to memorize the meaning of it. To start with, this book tests the current vocabulary to see where we are and then introduces various words which are arranged into separate sections with chapters in it. Various words to describe various things like personality types, medical specialists, practitioners, science and scientists, liars and lying, actions, flattering people, etc are introduced and the book ends with a chapter on how to continuously keep building vocabulary. There is a good review section at the end of each chapter/section. Also, there is a good word list at the end of the book. Overall, this is a very effective book in building vocabulary and I would strongly recommend this book!

A very good book to help readers to master the words from the angle of etymology.

I'm only 19 and i dont really read books, but this one is awesome if you wanna build a better vocabulary. I was so suprised. You will learn so many words from this book. It's not exactly a book that you read, it is a book that's also filled with little quizzes to quiz oneself on how much you've learned after each chapter, and the book gives excellent examples for each word, and words are also categorized too. Trust me, Buy it!

I am in sophomore PRE-AP and we do this book...very challenging. It seems that the words in here are not ones that you would use commonly, but learning the roots is a major help. ALMOST 5 STARS...CLOSE...BUT NO CIGAR!
