“I want a meaningful career—not just a job. But how do I get there?”

When passion drives your choices and your talents shine, opportunities abound. But you can’t get there if you don’t know where or how to start.

This book shows you how.

Since 1987, Echoing Green has provided over thirty million dollars in seed funding to the world’s top young social entrepreneurs who figured out the where and the how. But their paths weren’t straight or always clear. How did they do it? Meet five of these changemakers and see for yourself as they dig deep and find their way.

Career choice is a destination, not a decision, and having the right tools to navigate the ride is essential. The stories in this book will help you listen to your heart, use your head, and unleash your hustle. Meanwhile, thought-provoking questions will prompt you to discover what moves you most—what gets you out of bed in the morning—and guide you as you take inventory of your beliefs, acquired skills, and innate gifts so you can lock onto your inspiration. PLUS, more than 150 career resources and programs targeted toward helping you move your vision forward in real time that will put your career on the fast track.

Highly recommended if you're looking for a career with great social benefits!

The individual stories of the Echoing Green Fellows are inspirational on so many levels and really illustrate how the combination of Heart, Head and Hustle can lead people into a job they love. As someone fairly young in their professional career, this book has provided a wealth of knowledge on how to find a job that is not only personally fulfilling, but one that benefits society as a whole. Although it's a quick read, the questions asked and the lessons learned will surely stick with me throughout my professional career.

A quick read, with a lasting impact

The stories bring to the surface everything I've always thought about but never have done. The rest of the book (especially the resources pages) push me to actually do it.

A must-read for people who want a career making a difference!

As someone trying to figure out how to start out on the path of a meaningful career, I found "Work on Purpose" inspirational. The five people whose stories we follow are so easy to relate to, and yet have accomplished amazing things. I love that there are sections throughout the book for personal reflection, so that the reader is invited to trace their own journey through the same steps these leaders have taken to get to where they are now. It is also so encouraging to be reminded that this journey is usually a winding one, but that every experience can be valuable when we finally do end up syncing our heart and head.

    AMAZING READ!! Highly Recommended

As a college student who is in the process of "finding myself," I have found this book to be THE MOST helpful read. The book tells the story of 5 of the fellows funded by the organization who published the book and follows them as they find and shape their career path. Often my generation is told that we shouldn't major in things like anthropology because we will never be able to make money doing so, but this book proves them all wrong. Whatever your skills and passions are, you can mix them in such a way that is not only successful but also life-fulfilling.

Totally recommend it!! (Plus, it is a short, easy, yet captivating read!)

A Must-Read for Those Who Want a Career that Will Change the World

I read an advanced copy of this book when I was in the midst of a career shift and found its framework for creating a meaningful career (Heart + Head = Hustle) incredibly useful in discerning my career path. So much so, in fact, that I have since begun working at the organization that produced the book--Echoing Green. I highly recommend Work on Purpose to others who want to create a career that is both good for them and the world at the same time.
