Over the years, Galinsky has seen many a young person with a bold idea for changing the world walk through her door. What People are saying about this

Alexander Haislip
Work on Purpose fills the gap between the great ambitions of social entrepreneurs and the day to day execution that powers the changes they hope to bring about. The book profiles exciting young people as they go through the process of bringing new world-changing projects to life. It's mandatory reading for those who want to translate idealism into action. (Alexander Haislip, Editor of Journal of Impact Investing)
Roger Lowenstein
By stressing both the element of "head" and "heart" that is required of social entrepreneurs, Galinsky invites us to imagine a bolder form of traditional social work, in which the commitment of a Mother Teresa is married to the organizational spirit of a Sam Walton. In this era when neither government nor private business—and least of all Wall Street—seem fully capable of addressing the need for economic development and social change, the stories of Andrew, Cheryl, Mardie, Mark and Socheata offer resounding evidence that a single person can indeed make a difference.
Jane Gately
On my flight back to Chicago I read the book and found it well constructed, easy to read, very interesting and inspiring. Although it was written for college students, I found myself wondering about my next career. I have ordered 10 copies for nieces and nephews.

The individual stories of the Echoing Green Fellows are inspirational on so many levels and really illustrate how the combination of Heart, Head and Hustle can lead people into a job they love. As someone fairly young in their professional career, this book has provided a wealth of knowledge on how to find a job that is not only personally fulfilling, but one that benefits society as a whole. Although it's a quick read, the questions asked and the lessons learned will surely stick with me throughout my professional career.

The stories bring to the surface everything I've always thought about but never have done. The rest of the book (especially the resources pages) push me to actually do it.

As someone trying to figure out how to start out on the path of a meaningful career, I found "Work on Purpose" inspirational. The five people whose stories we follow are so easy to relate to, and yet have accomplished amazing things. I love that there are sections throughout the book for personal reflection, so that the reader is invited to trace their own journey through the same steps these leaders have taken to get to where they are now. It is also so encouraging to be reminded that this journey is usually a winding one, but that every experience can be valuable when we finally do end up syncing our heart and head.

As a college student who is in the process of "finding myself," I have found this book to be THE MOST helpful read. The book tells the story of 5 of the fellows funded by the organization who published the book and follows them as they find and shape their career path. Often my generation is told that we shouldn't major in things like anthropology because we will never be able to make money doing so, but this book proves them all wrong. Whatever your skills and passions are, you can mix them in such a way that is not only successful but also life-fulfilling. Totally recommend it!! (Plus, it is a short, easy, yet captivating read!)

I read an advanced copy of this book when I was in the midst of a career shift and found its framework for creating a meaningful career (Heart + Head = Hustle) incredibly useful in discerning my career path. So much so, in fact, that I have since begun working at the organization that produced the book--Echoing Green. I highly recommend Work on Purpose to others who want to create a career that is both good for them and the world at the same time.
