Often there is no ding or the ding is so small you can still give it as a gift. We just cannot promise it is gift quality every time, as we tend to have multiple copies and we cannot catalog and describe each ding (or lack thereof). Overview

A Practical Guidebook for Building and Operating a Successful Conscious Enterprise

he words "business" and "social change" may seem contradictory, but the fact is that a successful business may be the most powerful force for positive change in the world today. With Working for Good, Jeff Klein presents a how-to guidebook for becoming a conscious entrepreneur-one who addresses social issues while running a profitable business based on integrity and self-actualization.

Putting the tools of conscious business development firmly in our hands, Jeff takes us step by step through the five essential skills of Working for Good, showing how to:

Deeply engage others with your work by expressing your humanity through embodied awareness

Sustain both your business and your values by establishing purpose grounded in principles

Generate rich experiences in and outside of work through a network of spirited connection and collaboration

For anyone who has yearned to make a good living in service of real social change, Jeff Klein offers an indispensable read that is at once deeply inspirational and wholly practical.

    a good reminder

Seems to place self-consciousness in the right place. Reminds me of the '70s. Although some may feel the content and exercises too mystical, there's a place for it. From the Preface "... I find that the biggest breakthroughs and movements tend to happen in moments of stillness, when I stop 'doing' and create a sense of for 'being', within myself and others. As Claude Debussy once observed, 'music is the space between the notes.'

For people inclined to work in an organization where they share a mission of larger dimensions than profit-and-loss, everyone needs to rethink or realign their worlds for the symbiotic entity to trend forward. As compared to stuck-in-the-mud.

Music is the space between the notes.

    Master Principles of Business Consciousness

WORKING FOR GOOD provides intuition and mindfulness exercises readers can practice to gain a better sense of who they and how they can do the most good in the world. Author Jeff Klein shares insights drawn from his role as executive director of a nonprofit called FLOW, encouraging us to build, support and work for conscious businesses that operate based on three core principles: having a deeper purpose, optimize interdependencies, and providing leadership through being in service. Klein provides some examples of how to work in conscious businesses in a way that is perfectly suited for anyone interested in making money while simultaneously operating from a place of honesty, compassion, and love. Few money-making ideas are presented in WORKING FOR GOOD, as this is primarily more of a self-help book than a business book in the traditional sense.

WORKING FOR GOOD provides a tantalyzing glimpse behind the scenes of conscious businesses that are becoming increasingly visible and admired, at a time when many self-serving businesses are suffering from tarnished images when the public becomes aware of their selfish short-sightedness. Klein takes readers through some of the most important practical skills needed for working in conscious businesses, which require self-reflection and a commitment to ongoing growth to achieve. WORKING FOR GOOD is not recommended for readers who are not interested in self actualization, as they may not readily recognize the intrinsic value of learning skills such as understanding emotions, or reflective listening.

I recommend WORKING FOR GOOD for anyone interested in helping to transform their business into a more conscious business, who is open to becoming more conscious in the process.

Developing the Personal Skills Required for Working for Good

Jeff Klein's first book Working for Good is not only for CEOs but for all of us, change agents, who are trying to make a difference while making a living - no matter what our role, responsibilities and work setting are - whether we work for a large corporation, a small private business, a social enterprise, or a non-profit.

Embedded in the book is the idea that one cannot facilitate change by simply looking outside of ourselves for designing more conscious businesses. On the contrary, making a difference in our work begins with a personal journey of looking deeply into ourselves to find the insights and strength required to behave and act more mindfully. To do so, we need to reconnect to our humanity, to our heart, and to our soul.

Klein's five Working for Good principles - awareness, embodiment, connection, collaboration, and integration - are the critical skills that we need to develop if one wants to facilitate change. Accompanying the presentation of each skill are reflection exercises that aim at anchoring the learnings from the book and at helping us develop our own personal practice. Do each exercise mindfully and you'll witness the subtle transformative process that occurs within you! As you engage in leading and facilitating change, Working for Good will be the essential resource you will come back to, again and again, when you feel that the challenge is too great and the burden too heavy.

Note: I had the great pleasure to participate to Klein's presentation of his book at the East-West bookstore in Seattle on September 17. Unlike any traditional book reading, Klein engaged the audience into a mini workshop and gave each of us the opportunity to tune in and reflect on our life and work purpose, on the roadblocks that may be in our way to achieving it, and on the different kinds of support we can draw from as we embark onto our journey as change agents. Based on his extensive personal experience in working with - and helping develop conscious businesses, Klein's stories provided a meaningful and highly optimistic view of what the future of Working for Good might be like for each of us. For more live presentations by Klein, see his website: www.workingforgood.com

    Personal Sustainability

With Working for Good, Jeff Klein has given the corporate social responsibility movement a road map for personal behavior and integration. How do I change my approach and outlook to contribute more effectively to a greater good in the organization and workplace.

    A compelling and comforting analysis!
