Overview

The acclaimed, life-changing book that shows you how to stop "working" on yourself—and start living in the moment

Have you ever wondered what it would feel like to go through your life without stress or self-doubt? To have a real sense of inner peace and fulfillment? Now you can—through the three simple principles in this book. Just as they do in their world-renowned workshops, Ariel and Shya Kane teach a refreshingly natural approach to living that is easy to do yet dramatically transformative. The three simple ideas that form the foundation of their approach are:

  1. What you resist persists and grows stronger.
  2. You can only be exactly as you are in the moment.
  3. Anything you allow to be exactly as it is completes itself.

Once you grasp these three straightforward but enlightened concepts, you can stop "working" on yourself and start living the life you've always wanted—free from your old perceptions, and open to world of possibilities for discovering the ins and outs of who you are.

"Working on Yourself Doesn't Work has much to offer to anyone who wants a more meaningful and spiritual life."

New York Spirit magazine

"This may be the most profound and life-transforming book you'll ever read. If you want a life filled with excellence, well-being, and happiness, read this book now!"
—Marie Forleo, author of Make Every Man Want You

    Everyday Satisfaction!

I always used to think that 'living in the moment' was an abstract concept that you could only achieve by meditating for years on a mountaintop. I wanted it, but couldn't understand how it could possibly work for me, with my busy life and all of my goals. Well, Ariel and Shya Kane and their incredible book have shown me that not only is living in the moment possible, but it is fun and practical! The Kane's approach to living in the moment puts the light back in enlightenment; their book is written with humor and compassion and is a joy to read. It combines simple, profound ideas with their own personal stories and experiences. After reading their book and attending their workshops, I have experienced so much transformation in my own life. So much of the stress and pain I created by "working on myself" for years has dissolved and been replaced with a sense of ease and an urgency and passion for living my life! Possibilities and opportunities have emerged that were once beyond my wildest dreams. If you are tired of living in a constant and painful loop of thoughts and are interested in experiencing more satisfaction in all areas of your life, pick up this book today!

    Highly recommended!

This book does a nice job in explaining the fact that the mere act of trying takes us away from and not toward a state of inner peace and harmony. The authors provide us with some practical advice to get over this contradiction but the best book that explains this so far is 'The Ever-Transcending Spirit' by Toru Sato. Although Sato admits in his book that he would not be writing that book if he was in total peace, he provides us with an clear and understandable account of the concept. This book by the Kane's is also a wonderful attempt to explain this phenomena. It provides an articulate account of the personal experiences of the authors and why 'trying' does not work. I felt that I learned quite a lot from this book! Highly recommended.

    A New Possibility for Aliveness

Working On Yourself Doesn't Work opens up a new possibility for the way we live. Rather than operating through the framework of change, where there are problems to fix and events in the past carry over to worries in the future, authors Ariel and Shya Kane offer Instantaneous Transformation, a lifestyle of awareness, which they define as a 'non-judgmental way of seeing,' and being present to each moment. In the course of the book, they explain the Three Principles of Transformation. These principles are to being alive what the laws of physics are to the structure of the universe: basic and simple, but profound truths that support the laws of the universe. The Kanes illustrate their principles of transformation with simplicity, honesty and compassion. Their language is clear, straightforward and thoroughly understandable. They offer their personal experiences, which are very touching and sincere, as examples of the effectiveness of this incredible phenomenon of transformation. What is so exciting, unique and refreshing about their technology is that it is simple and relevant to people's daily lives. I've tried it myself and it works. This is a truly great book!

    Simple Yet Powerful

Simple yet powerful, fun, and effective is how I found the book 'Working on Yourself Doesn't Work' by Ariel & Shya Kane. The book was a very easy fast read. It was amazing how much I learned reading this book. The chapter that touched me the most was the one titled IDA. I really learned how true it is that one of the best gifts you can give is that of forgiveness. It frees you and allows you to live your life, as the other person might not even know about the transgression you are holding against them. So the only one who gets hurt when you are holding a grudge is you. In light of the events of recent weeks, life is too short and precious to hold grudges. I recommend this book for anyone who is searching for a more fulfilling and satisfying life.

    Centering and Calming Affect

This is the best self help book I have come across in the market today. Along with personal experiences and their principles of transformation, the Kanes present a way of achieving and sustaining a fulfilling and meaningful life. I found the flow of the Kanes writing very easy to follow. The first chapters outlining immediate ways to access the moment such as true listening, looking to see 'where you are' as a starting point and awareness were very helpful. I especially liked the chapter called 'Awareness.' In this chapter, the Kanes give the example that by becoming an 'anthropologist' and just observe your judgements or prejudices you have for yourself and others around you, your life can become a more authentic expression of yourself. This simple way of looking at my thought process is very freeing and has enabled me to be more true to my self in different circumstances that occur in my life. I also must add that in these recent times of national stress and sadness I have returned to read the Kane¿s book on a number of occasions. In reading this book I find a centering and calming affect. I highly recommend reading this insightful and inspiring book.

    THIS BOOK MADE ME SURVIVE!

The Kanes' book 'Working on Yourself Doesn't Work' made me survive. We were only allowed to take one personal item to the island in Malaysia, and thank God, I took this wunderful book. The three principles of transformation that are described in this book in such an understandable, warmhearted way (not to mention the wunderful sense of humour that is included) helped me through the seven weeks of surviving. Instead of complaining about the hard and sometimes dangerous circumstances (I lost 22 pounds!), I could see what was needed and had to be done. And in contrast to most of my partners in the game, I had a lot of fun by just seeing and not judging what was going on - and I made it 'til the final, where only two people were left (a man and me), out of 14 people who started. Thank you Ariel & Shya for making that success possible! I highly recommend this book and their workshops to everybody who wants to have a great life and discover happiness. Buy it, read it and you are welcome to share your experience with me.

    Show up for Your Life

Most self improvement type books seem to be like road maps to a way of life that to me, was amazing, if you make a right here it¿s toward a good thing, and a left there to avoid a bad thing BUT FROM WHERE ? I could dream for hours how nice it would be to feel that way. It was as if the first few rungs on the ladder to a better life were missing. I could never get my foot high enough to actually start climbing. This book puts those rungs in place, and their tapes, especially, Instantaneous Transformation, give that all important little tidbit of information (like the X with an arrow pointing to it in a shopping mall directory) YOU ARE HERE. After all, when I ask for directions to anywhere the first thing I am asked is ¿where are you coming from?¿ It¿s not so much what their words have given me. It¿s more what I have now left behind. Those restless nights hashing and rehashing the day, or yesterday or events from twenty years ago. GONE.

    A GREAT BOOK!!

I especially like the Kanes 'non-work and nonjudgmental' approach to transformation discussed in their book. It is quite different from other avenues to transformation I have found. The Kanes' approach has truly worked for myself. As I have become more aware of my true self, I have also become more effective in all aspects of my life. I highly recommend Working on Yourself Doesn't Work to anyone who wants a meaningful and fulfilling life.

A Wonderful Book about Personal Growth!

This is a great book. It is simply, yet beautifully written. The stories and parables in the book are heartwarming and have had a very healing effect for me. The title of the book itself includes the essence of the authors' approach. It is a very powerful and transformative idea. 'Working on Yourself Does Not Work' means to stop focusing on fixing/changing/or improving yourself... The authors are saying that true happiness and self-realization come from pure awareness without judging yourself. The authors' approach is very different from the prevalent ideas of most self-help and psychology. There are many other very powerful principles of transformation inside the book that help you discover how to stop working on yourself - and to discover how to live your life more in the present moment, and how to have more of your life be a peak experience. The message in this book is about becoming one with your life, by living all aspects of your life with totality, and discovering fulfillment in every moment. The principles in this book have become my everyday reality - and have allowed me be to more fulfilled and satisfied - in both my personal and professional life.

    Excellent - It really Works!

I really apprecate the style of writing in this book. I had the pleasure of designing the cover of 'Working on Yourself, Doesn't Work' and have read it many times. I always discover something new each time I read it. My life simply keeps getting better! I recently shared the book with some business associates. Everyone appreciated the book so much that during our last businees dinner they couldn't stop talking about it. One of themes that really touched them was the concept of 'being alive' or 'being right'. We all feel so much more alive since reading the book. What an amazing gift 'Working on Yourself, Doesn't Work' is. I love the impact this book has had. It turned acquaintances into real friends. They all personnaly thanked me. Read it... and buy copies for your friends, too! They will Thank You

Getting the most out of your life!

Major transformations can happen in your life without drama or crisis or working on yourself for years. It can happen by simply bringing yourself into the present moment. What a relief and best of all its true! In their book the Kanes present many keys to unlock the doors of living in the moment, where you can step into yourself creating a wonderful and fulfilling path thru life. For me one of the biggest keys the Kanes present for living in the moment is listening. I mean really listening to hear what the speaker is saying from their point of view. This simple observation in my listening skills has been one of the most potent shifts in my effectiveness and satisification at my job and in my personal life. As the title states 'working on yourself doesn't work': this means that the more I paid attention to how I was or wasn't listening without judging or trying to fix what I found, the shift that occurred for me was faster and more complete. I have read and reread the Kanes' book using it as a cornerstone in my life. It supports me in living my life as it presents itself to me and not how I think it should be or wish it to be. Through this book I have learned the power of personal transformation. This has enabled me to turn many wishes I once had into realities, such as a great relationship with my husband, a rewarding job I love and true friendships. I highly recommend the Kanes' book for anyone interested in getting the most out of their life!

    Just plain loved it!

I highly recommend 'Working on Yourself Doesn't Work' by Ariel and Shya Kane to anyone who wants to live each day with self-expression, satisfaction and love. Many books have pointed the way for me, but this one went right to the heart of the matter - that trying to fix yourself keeps you stuck in the places you'd like to be free of, but getting into the moment will set you free. Just in reading and re-reading the book, I've found myself falling into the space of living in the moment and my life has become easier. The Kanes lay out simple principles along with anecdotes, examples, and hand drawn illustrations, all designed to open the door to living in the moment. The message is simple and crisp -you can live a miraculous life by staying in the moment. Others have said this before, but the Kanes come through as real people who have discovered the keys to enlightenment on a day-to-day, in the marketplace basis. One of the reviews of 'Working on Yourself Doesn't Work' pointed me to an audio tape by the Kanes called 'Magical Relationships.' What a treat! After meeting the authors through their book, I got to actually hear them talking with people in a seminar. They are brilliant with people, really listening to each question and comment that arises from the audience and giving everything they've got with their responses. Listening to the tape was like spending time with two compassionate friends (and their guests!) who have discovered magic in their lives. I felt very close to one of the participants who talked about how embarrassing it can be to feel her partners love for her. It's a great section, but I won't give any more away. You don't have to dream about having an awesome life. Get the book, get the tape, and celebrate - the Kanes are a gift

    Amazing in its insight!!!

I had become living proof that 'Working on Yourself, Doesn't Work.' I had spent years searching for a system, a formula, some paradigm or dogma that would bring me happiness, joy, and freedom. The work was arduous and agonizing. Nothing seemed to feel right or honest. My beliefs were like clothing, changed for the occasions. I was ever fearful of being mistaken or being found out. After reading 'Working On Yourself, Doesn't Work' and putting into practice the Kane's technology, I have discovered a reality for myself that has exceeded my wildest fantasies. The most astounding aspect of this discovery is that I needed to do nothing more than be present for my life. I needed to just be me. For this simple insight, with its most profound and far-reaching ramifications, I thank the Kane's and strongly suggest 'Working On Yourself, Doesn't Work' to anyone interested in satisfaction. Not the contrived satisfaction of Madison Avenue, but the satisfaction that is felt deep inside. It is possible and the Kanes have shown a way.

    Simply Magical!

I found this book simply delightful! It was truly refreshing. After spending many years working on my self, I found a weight lifted off my shoulders to know, there is another way. What the kanes show you, how to have a magical life and truly how working on yourself doesn't work. Three cheers for the authors!

I loved this book! It's refreshing!

This book is very light, easy to read and at the same time very touching. I especially enjoyed the discussion of the 3 Principles of Transformation. The first principle the authors talk about is: 'Anything you resist, persists -- and gets stronger'. I like this principle since I see how it applies to my life. When I am upset it sticks around because I resist being upset. However, when I am happy this goes by quickly because I am not resisting it. Another chapter I really liked is on 'Happiness'. I can really relate to this chapter since it talks about happiness being a desired state and how we often forget to feel the in between states like sadness. It has a great illustration and this great quote: 'Only by being the way you are can you find that elusive state of contentment'. I found this refreshing. Most of all, I found the book very practical and fun. It is not a belief system which I really liked. It is just about being yourself in any given moment. There are many other wonderful parts and stories in the book but I don't want to give away all the goodies! I highly, highly, highly recommend it!

    Thanks from Germany!

'Working on Yourself Doesn't Work - could that be ?' I thought the first time I read the title of this book. Friends of mine who are also living in Hamburg, Germany where I am from told me about the Kanes, the workshops and the things happening in their lives from experiencing the principles described in this book. And so I read it with interest- and learned to see clearly what's going on in my life and what a difference there is between deciding (eliminating options) and choosing freely in my life. The three principles of transformation the Kanes describe are so easy they seem almost too good to be true - but they are true. Test them on yourself! Since I realized that it could be best to enjoy life by staying in the moment and trusting in the possibilities life holds for us I feel much better than before - relaxed, calmer, more satisfied. I hope that other readers will have this feeling too - and maybe will also find their way to stop working on themselves. Because what we are is the best we can be - and aren't we perfect in the way we are? Enjoy reading and then start to be alive!

The approach outlined in this book has really transformed my life. It has helped me improve my personal relationships, and given me a deeper feeling of well-being and happiness. It has also directly contributed to greater success, wealth, and career advancement in my life. I have met the authors and done some of their seminars - and - the Kanes really do 'Walk Their Talk.' More than any teachers I have ever met ... they really do teach people how to have excellence and satisfaction in their lives. What matters the most to me about what the Kanes say is that their approach works. For those who are true seekers - the Kanes offer one of the most powerful methods available for enlightenment, excellence and happiness. This book is a dream come true -- it's like sitting down for a chat with two wise and gentle friends -- who happen to be enlightened. Ariel and Shya Kane lay out their principles of transformation seamlessly and with such clarity that the reader is instantly affected by their words. After spending an afternoon with this wonderful book (it's an easy, compelling read), I feel that a veil has been lifted from my eyes and my life sparkles as I live it. I intend to keep it on my bed table so I can regularly pick up the book and 'visit' with these two great people who have reawakened me to the joy of life and my own greatness. Thank you Kanes for this wonderful gift!
