Meet the Author

Sir Henry Rider Haggard (1856-1925) was an English author of adventure novels set in exotic locales, predominantly Africa. King Solomon’s Mines, one of his best-known books, details the life of the explorer Allan Quartermain. She: A History of Adventure followed, introducing the character Ayesha. While much of Haggard’s reputation stems from those two books and their subsequent series, he also wrote nonfiction and short stories.

I should qualify this recommendation by saying that I have only had time to read one of the many books contained in this anthology - however, that book was excellent, and gives me high hopes concerning the rest. The book I read was King Solomon's Mines, which is a wonderful adventure story set in South Africa (and surrounding environs, some of them invented by the author) during the 1880s. This e-book had minimal issues concerning punctuation mistakes and the wrong letters being put in words, although there are some problems with both. It does contain a map, which I thought was pretty good of it. I highly recommend King Solomon's Mines - as to the rest of the books, we will see!

I know that all of these books can be found in the public domain, but my time is worth more to me than spending all the time it would take to find and download, not to mention all the space it would take on my Nook. This was exactly what I was looking for. No agenda to put forth. Just adventure and entertainment at its' best. And what a price. Less than a dime a book.
