Description: Worksite health promotion is a technique thought to combat many of the disorders, disease, and various stressors that are to blame for poor health and lost workplace productivity. This book links theoretical concepts of health promotion and their application. It outlines an approach to planning, implementing, and evaluating programs of this nature.
Purpose: The author, among practitioners of worksite health promotion, seeks to influence the state of workplace health among American workers by further educating practitioners of health promotion. The worthiness of this objective is found in gains with respect to health on an individual and a group basis.
Audience: The book is written primarily for students planning careers in this field as well as for current practitioners of health promotion. It will also find use among the broader pool of human resources and loss prevention personnel.
Features: The first of the book's three sections describes economic forces affecting these programs (2 chapters). The second section describes front-end programming decisions (goal setting, lifestyle modification, and economic considerations in 2 chapters). The third section concerns itself with accomplishment and evaluation of worksite health promotion (3 chapters). Two appendixes, one devoted to a personal health questionnaire and one to be used for environmental (plant) evaluations, end the book.

Meet the Author

David Chenoweth, PhD, is a professor of health education and director of worksite health promotion studies at East Carolina University, where he has taught planning and evaluation courses for more than 25 years. Dr. Chenoweth has directed and conducted evaluation projects in the public and private sectors for more than two decades as president of Chenoweth & Associates, Inc. He's a frequent speaker to various business and health care groups and has authored eight books, including Planning Health Promotion at the Worksite, Health Care Cost Management, Worksite Health Promotion, and Evaluating Worksite Promotion.

Dr. Chenoweth is a fellow of the Association for Worksite Health Promotion (AWHP) and on the medical advisory board of the Wellness Councils of America. For 14 years he chaired the business and industry committee of the North Carolina Governor's Council of Physical Fitness and Health. In 2004, Dr. Chenoweth was invited by the European Union to consult on worksite health promotion. He received his PhD from Ohio State University in 1980.
