Overview

World Civilizations: The Global Experience, Fifth Edition, Atlas Edition
Peter N. Stearns, Michael Adas, Stuart Schwartz, and Marc J. Gilbert

With 83 outline maps and four-color maps, World Civilizations: The Global Experience, Fifth Edition, Atlas Edition, helps students with geography, one of the most difficult aspects of World history courses for many. Four-color and outline maps accompanied by review questions call on students to identify important geographical areas and think critically about the connection between geography and historical events. The maps are on perforated pages and organized by chapter so that they can be assigned easily and collected.

Here is a sample of the maps included:

Greek and Phoenician Colonies and Trade Expansion of Islam Mongol Empire as a Bridge between Civilizations World Boundaries 1453 and 1700
Treaty Ports and the Boxer Rebellion in China The Scramble for Africa World War II in the Pacific Outline Map After Empire: Africa and the Middle East

A complete listing of the maps appears at the front of this book.

Do you want more maps? All of the maps in this text — plus many more at no additional cost–can be found on Longman’s exclusive website, www.MyHistoryLab.com.

MyHistoryLab also contains a myriad of other resources such as images, an electronic version of the textbook, student assessment tests, fifty of the most commonly assigned books in history, and much more.

Editorial Reviews

Booknews
New edition of a global history text that discusses the development of the world's leading civilizations and emphasizes the major stages in the interactions among different peoples and societies. Stearns (George Mason U.), Michael Adas (Rutgers U.), Stuart B. Schwartz (Yale U.) and Marc J. Gilbert (North Georgia College and State U.) include study of civilizations that are sometimes neglected in standard texts. The 42 chapters discuss the origins of civilizations, the classical and post-classical eras, the period between 1450-1750, industrialization and western global hegemony between 1750-1914, and the 20th century in world history. Attractively formatted with color and b&w photographs, illustrations, reproductions of paintings, and maps. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
