“A reader will certainly come away with a slew of knowledge about the fascinating creatures. ” —Children's Literature

Ready to hunt dinosaurs? Then read this book in the "The World Of" series. The title page offers a unique illustration showing the muscles, bones, and innards of a dinosaur. The excellent beginning category entitled "Finding Out" grabs the attention of the reader by explaining how to dig up the beasts today. The Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous periods are discussed in the book's second category. Topics in the other three categories include well-structured information about the dinosaurs' birth and death, hunting and scavenging, and their neighbors. True to life illustrations and clear photographs enhance the over all text. The format consists of two page sections that include paragraphs in large print and several in small print. The small print sections are used to put illustrations in an order (1, 2, 3, etc.) or to aptly label illustrations. One category entitled "Fatal Impact" realistically proposes the theory that a meteor crashed to earth and wiped out the dinosaurs. Clear maps promote geography skills. A category called "Dinosaurs Forever" informs the reader of how dinosaurs are used for moneymaking projects. Examples are dinosaur candy, a King Kong movie, comics, Barney, and museum exhibits. The end of text material consists of two pages with names, classifications, relatives, origin of the names, and sizes of the dinosaurs. Followed up by a glossary and other resources, a reader will certainly come away with a slew of knowledge about the fascinating creatures. 2004, Kingfisher/Houghton Mifflin, Ages 8 to 12.
