Meet the Author

Born April 30, 1938 in Los Angeles, California. Attended California Institute of Technology; flunked out after discovering a book store jammed with used science fiction magazines. Graduated Washburn University, Kansas, June 1962: BA in Mathematics with a Minor in Psychology, and later received an honorary doctorate in Letters from Washburn. Interests: Science fiction conventions, role playing games, AAAS meetings and other gatherings of people at the cutting edges of science. Comics. Filk singing. Yoga and other approaches to longevity. Moving mankind into space by any means, but particularly by making space endeavors attractive to commercial interests. Several times we’ve hosted The Citizens Advisory Council for a National Space Policy. I grew up with dogs. I live with a cat, and borrow dogs to hike with. I have passing acquaintance with raccoons and ferrets. Associating with nonhumans has certainly gained me insight into alien intelligences. www.larryniven.net

    Good story, but...

This edition is so full of font changes and typos it is difficult to read.

Fun read. Fonts a little messed up.

The 4stars are for the material. Niven tells a good story and does not disappoint here. This ebook edition has some problems with the fonts for a paragrapg or so every few pages. Not that big a distraction for me but it eould be nice if BN could at least have some human look over the OCR scan job from paper. Clearly, that was not done. Still, a good read.

A World may be out of time, but not out of suspense and adventure...

Larry Niven has always been a author I have been a fan of eversince I picked up one of his earlier science fiction novels and began reading it I was immediatly captured from the first chapter of his novel, I couldn't help but wonder what was going to happen next in the novel? Would the Earth be changed? If so, what would happen to it? Those are the kinds of questions that keep me reading his novels because I want to know the answers to my own questions. Larry Niven and his novel, A World out of Time, is a very intergalactic adventure that involves very futuristic machines and methods of living, it is truly mind-boggling to any reader! This novel isn't your average science fiction novel, it is science fiction in all of it's glory!! I highly recommend this novel open your mind to the world of science fiction!!

    Pure Sci-Fi Fun!

This book is one of Larry's best-- if not THE best. It's a great adventure from beginning to end. The plot is super, the characters are imaginative and vivid, the hard science is there... I didn't want it to end!

    Still one of the Best

This is still one of Niven's best stand-alone, non-Know-Space novels. Niven looks so far ahead, that his ideas are fresh enough to excite physics professors, their students, and all hard-SF fans. Yet you don't need a physics degree to read them: Above all else, Niven's stories are fun!

    This book is the bomb-skee

I'm 15 (obviously) and I recently read this book, and it just blew me away; it was very well-written, creative, and the guy actually sounded like he knew what he was talking about. I was so dissapointed when my library didn't have anymore of his books. I would love to read it again and again.

    World Out of Time

In this early work, Larry Niven gave the world a glimpse of what he had to offer science fiction readers, and the phenomenal talent we would come to know. Niven had, by this time, already established 'Niven's law', that brilliant science, combined with great storytelling, produced great science fiction. One of the generation of writers known as 'Heinlein's kids', Larry Niven, along with writers such as Harlan Ellison, S.M. Stirling, Stephen Barnes, Harry Turtledove, Andre Norton, Phillip Jose Farmer, and Jerry Pournelle (Niven's long time collaberator) have consistently broken new ground, and streached the genre in surprising directions. Never boring, never predictable, Larry Niven has raised the bar for future generations of sci-Fi authors.
