On the heels of recent releases from Juvenile and his Cash Money Millionaires, southern fried rap music just gets even more appetizing with Atlanta-based Goodie Mob's third delectable disc, WORLD PARTY. Although the foursome have been hailed as the saviors of socially conscious rap, they shy away from the politicized verse that energized past efforts and slouch toward the pleasures of Babylon this time out. On the infectious "Get Rich to This," featuring Outkast's Big Boi, Buddah-bellied Cee-Low squawks the group's new party line, "Big 'bout it Benz car keys with this...Cancun summer breeze with this/you know, doing good do show/I’m getting rich too bro' and I don't care who know." The disc even continues with some...

On the infectious "Get Rich to This," featuring Outkast's Big Boi, Buddah-bellied Cee-Low squawks the group's new party line, "Big 'bout it Benz car keys with this...Cancun summer breeze with this/you know, doing good do show/I’m getting rich too bro' and I don't care who know." The disc even continues with some salacious, sex-obsessed rhymes: the lurching funk of "I.C.U.," the string-accented "The Dip," and the electro-thump of "Cutty Buddy." Again, the Organized Noize production team design the bulk of the bangers with Puff Daddy's main beat erector, Deric "D-Dot" Angelettie, adding a bit of that head-nodding New York flavor to both "Chain Swang" and the righteous "Rebuilding." Still, a festive ambiance is undeniable. And on the Dallas Austin co-produced "What It Ain't Ghetto Enuff" with TLC, the Mob are obviously aiming to make an appeal for commercial acceptance with a gender war-baiting, synth-driven romp. Think "No Scrubs" with instant rebuttal. Replacing the sanctimony with pure fun, Goodie Mob have produced a disc packed with plenty booty-shakin' bump to get parties crunk across the globe. Paula T. Fresh for the end of the millennium, Goodie Mob cut loose and put the bounce back into Southern rap with their third album. As listeners might gather from the title, World Party is just that -- a party record, with fewer message tracks than were found on Goodie Mob's first two albums. In their place are hands-in-the-air party songs like the title track, "Get Rich to This," "Chain Swang," and the great TLC collaboration "What It Ain't Ghetto Enuff." The production, mostly by Organized Noize or Deric "D-Dot" Angelettie aka the Madd Rapper, isn't quite as strong as it has been in the past, but Goodie Mob's laid-back rhymes and vocal choruses make up for the deficit.
