Poems are often fragments of a larger narrative, whether they come from the life of the writer or characters imagined, shaped so that they can be whole in themselves. Overview

Poems are often fragments of a larger narrative, whether they come from the life of the writer or characters imagined, shaped so that they can be whole in themselves. The poems in A World Remembered are from the narrative of my own life and lives I have known or imagined, and I hope they also combine to make the story that is a book—a community of momentary understandings even if the world remembered is only what we think we know.

What People are saying about this

Hayden Carruth
"I hear Mozart over and over again in Alan Broughton's writing, joy, and grief reaching beyond restraint yet always beckoning toward a kind of decorum from the natural ambience—or from somewhere, I don't know where."
Howard Frank Mosher
"In its unfailing grace and humanity, In the Country of Elegies is a deeply-felt affirmation of those moments in life that matter most to all of us."
Ted Kooser
"Broughton's work assures us that there is still a poetry being written in which the poet attempts to come to terms with his experiences, and not with the flowering of his style, the popularity of his forms, or the current fashions in writing. Fortunately for the persistent reader of new collections and little magazines, one now and again comes upon a little poetry among all of the poems, and I am happy to have this opportunity to say that Broughton is writing some of this poetry."
