Library Journal - Library Journal
This book compiles large amounts of information on a wide spectrum of the world's resources, including population, agriculture, energy, climate, and wildlife. It is divided into two large sections--a review of global resources and a summary of these resources in tabular form--and two shorter sections--an overview of the book and a discussion of rehabilitation and restoration of land. Although the format is basically the same as the 1986 and 1987 editions, this volume has some changes in chapter content, has a special focus on Asia, and marks the change to biennial editions. An important work, covering topics of current, critical importance. Recommended for academic, public, and high school libraries.-- Joseph Hannibal, Cleveland Museum of Natural History
Chapters cover population and health; human settlements; food and agriculture; forests and rangelands; wildlife and habitat; energy; freshwater, oceans and coasts; atmosphere and climate; global systems and cycles; policies and institutions. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (
